Jefferson/CJ for Andrew Bynum

Post#1 » by blackham9258 » Thu Apr 7, 2011 6:31 am

Lakers get the leagues best low-post offensive player who just turned 26, and a solid SG/SF in CJ. Jazz commit to complete rebuilding and get hopefully the upside of a young center while taking on the injury risk that Bynum has.

Is this a fair deal? I believe straight up if both players were completely healthy you don't trade Bynum for Jefferson, although its not a terrible swap because Jefferson is also a stud. But I think if you ad a 24 yr SF scorer, and you consider the cronic knee injury of Bynum... I believe this is fair value, and perhaps a huge risk by the Jazz if Bynum can never stay healthy.

Bynum is too injury prone for my tastes. We can't coast the way L.A. does without him.

The potential for Bynum to be completely dominant is probably too much for L.A. to part with, and certainly not for a guy like Jefferson who's already proved he doesn't play well in the triangle.

I honestly would do this trade in a heartbeat, but with that said, no way hell this would happen.

I am curious about what a Harris/millsap deal would get us, maybe throw on the gsw pick. That is a great package for a team looking to deal a star. Btw, not proposing that as a deal for drew.

I hear you man. Lakers definitely say no for the reasons you listed. Jefferson doesn't fit and CJ Miles is more of a bittersweetner (God damn I'm funny). I was just saying why I wouldn't want Bynum.

I'm not so sure about the Lakers saying no to that but if you're the Jazz you sure as heck say no.

I'm QUITE sure the Lakers say no. They say no before KOC can even finish the sentence.

I agree the Lakers don't even entertain this. I'm still scratching my head a bit at C.J. being "a solid SG/SF".
Here is some tidbits from NBA.com:
Ranks #43 in the NBA in Three-Point Field Goals Made (106)
Ranks #22 in the NBA in Three-Point Field Goal Attempts (329)
Ranks #42 in the NBA in Field Goals Per 48 Minutes (9.04)
Ranks #15 in the NBA in Field-Goal Attempts Per 48 Minutes (22.2)
Ranks #26 in the NBA in Three-Point Field Goals Per 48 Minutes (2.69)
Ranks #49 in the NBA in Steals Per 48 Minutes (1.85)
Ranks #35 in the NBA in Points Per 48 Minutes (24.7)

It doesn't bode well for him that he is 15th in FG attempts but 42nd in FGs or 22nd in 3pt FG attempts and 43rd in 3pt FGs. That means he isn't very efficient relative to his peers. Instead of solid I'd say "jello-y". He can put up some big numbers periodically--but his consistency needs work.

Is he good enough defensively to make up for the injuries and inferior offensive player? Al Jefferson is a better rebounder, passer, scorer, etc.. only thing that Bynum is better is a defensive player, but really by how much?

If the Jazz win the lottery, and Harrison Barnes stays at N.C., I think the Jazz should consider a Big Al and Harris for Bynum and Filler(walton or blake) and draft Irving. Lakers would be more inclined to do that deal, considering PG is their weakest position.

Bynum and Favors would be unbelievable defensively and both are more than capable offensively as well.

The next step at this point(regardless of whether or not the above trade happened) is to package Sap for a good SF of SG. After last night I still cannot believe we let Matthews walk. Portland wanted Sap a couple of years ago, and I think a Millsap for Matthews swap would be a good move this summer.

Then they let AK walk, and draft a combo guard with the second lottery pick(Jimmer, Walker, Knight, or Burks, who can play some point).

Potential Lineup:

Bynum/Okur/Fess
Favors/Evans
Hayward/Miles
Matthews/Jimmer,Knight,Walker, or Burks/Miles
Irving/Jimmer,Knight, Walker, or Burks

With the exception of Okur everyone would be under 25.

That could potentially be a top tier defensive team. The bench would have 3 guys(Okur, Miles, and Jimmer,Kemba, etc.) that could put up 20 on a given night. That would be a huge bonus.

My favorite thing about this lineup is there would be no ball-dominant players. Al and Harris are ball stoppers. The offense would run much more smoothly, imo.

why not? they have Gasol who can by easily full time center, Gasol/Al imo it would be absolutely unstoppable duo, in exchange there are giving talented but still injury prone. I dont see whay we should do that, Jazz got Favors that probably will end at 6'11/260 absolute defensive beast who will never have off post moves of Big Al. Duo c-Favors pf-Jefferson will probably look extremely impressive in future, and will play much better for there Jazz than any other combination of bogut/favors bynum/favors

I've already pretty much beat this horse to death, but I don't think it is really beneficial to either team. Jefferson is an extremely efficient offensive player, which the Jazz need, while Bynum is still a huge question mark locked into a max contract. To me it just screams Andrei all over again.

I still do it. I think its a fair trade. I think it makes us a lottery team for one more year next year which is fine, but it also allows us to speed up Derrick Favors progression. And if Bynum's injuries end up being what LA's fans think ( a series of unfortunate event) then we have a championship caliber roster.
