Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 6
If the options are choosing between a high-risk, high-reward guy and someone who can contribute immediately at the ripe old age of 21, I'm going to take Walker. When was the last time a player played here for more than seven years? Mo Pete? Go with the NBA ready Walker, who also, I feel, is BPA after Irving and Williams.

I'd probably make a few changes, but even then, its minor.
Nice to see Arizona with 2 5 stars.
Nice post, The 2012 NBA draft is projected to be a really deep draft and it has a bit to do with the quality of freshmen coming into the NCAA next year. I'm really excited to see Myck Kabongo play for the Texas "Team Canada" Longhorns, I think he's going to be awesome.

U a Raps fan? I'm asking because you seem like you're trying to sink our team by suggesting we should take Kemba #1.
TBH, if we draft him he'll be Bayless' back up next year. I'm close to certain. Bayless is only 1 year older, the more efficient scorer (and he's already in the league), has the size to play defense against the big new era PGs and he's the better passer.
yeah, let's blow a top pick on a guy that's going to back up Bayless. I wouldn't touch this kid anywhere in the top 5.
I've been a diehard since the start of the franchise... and to be honest I'm just mocking the people who are so high on Kemba.
Shoot, my bad, guess my sarcasm detector is broken.

NBA ready? What's NBA ready about Kemba? He's undersized, his jumper needs to be fixed and he has to improve substantially with his PG skills. Actually, there's nothing really NBA ready about him at all except maybe his age (and that's not a good thing).

Pretty short/small class. Anthony Davis' dimensions and athleticism stood out at the McDonald's game.
Love that hosers are playing at big schools next year, we'll get to see them play.

The fact that he's succeeded at every level he's played, his body (built like an ox) despite being a whopping two or three inches too short, good enough athleticism, and his swagger/whatever you call it is good enough for me to consider him NBA ready. Walker will be starting next season wherever he ends up.

It's also difficult to look like a PG when your team is full of nobodies and teams guard you like this:

Pfft. Yeah I wouldn't take Walker in the top 5.
Irving
D Will
Harrison Barnes
P.Jones
Kanter

Really? He was a nobody in HS, his freshmen year and sophmore year in college were OK.
This is really the first season he's done anything. And Walker wouldn't start on 80% of the teams out there. Like I said, I doubt he'd even beat out Bayless.

At this point, we'll have to agree to disagree. I'm able to eat crow when I'm wrong, but will any of the Walker naysayers?
(because you WILL be wrong)

Hes built like an ox? WOW talk about a hyperbole if there ever was one. I dont know what kind of glasses you are wearing, but Kemba Walker is no ox. Yes I can see it now, Kemba Walker and his ox like build pushing around Derrick Rose , Russell Westbrook and Deron Williams, watch out guys here comes Kemba walker at 5'11 170 pounds. Mateen Cleaves also "succeeded" at every level and led his team to the NCAA championship, and come to be nothing but an NBA washout. Kemba Walker is not a top 5 NBA prospect in this draft, period. He is not physically talented enough. His shooting is not elite to make up for his lack of size. He is not a gifted passer. He struggled immensly shooting with a more athletic defender like Liggins on him. He will be eaten alive by the far more athletic NBA game. His shooting was atrocious against Butler, whose guard defenders are not even close to NBA level defense, 5-19 shooting? 6-15 shooting against Liggins. How is he going to fare against NBA defenders? There is nothing, absolutely nothing about him to warrant a top 5 pick.

You mean, he'll begin the season in the city where he'll be located on that day? Sure.

+1. Aside from his "so called" Swagger I don't see any of the things everyone hypes up about.

All-American in HS, Rice High School (averaged 18/5), beat Derrick Rose's team at MSG
Starred on the #1 ranked AAU team in the nation, 2010
Scored 23 points in Elite Eight game while coming off the bench, 2009
Set NCAA scoring record in Big East Tournament, 2011
NCAA championship, 2011
You don't see that this guy comes to play and generally does really well, especially in big games?

I used the ox comparison because oxen are low to the ground and durable. Height doesn't equal strength and guile, which Walker has in spades.

While I would not touch him with a top 5 pick, I don't think it's fair to just look at Kemba's bad shooting nights and say he's gonna struggle against NBA defenders. Everyone, except Kyrie, had them this tournament.
Hell, even Brandon Knight, who TiKusDom likes a lot, shot 33% the whole tournament and shot 1-8 against Clemson.
