So which of the "top end" players have decided that they won't declare? Sullinger the only one so far?

He was stupid enough to use a 1st overall pick on Bargnani....

he has red flags indeed but because he also has the most upside out of all the players in this draft, and we have glaring need at the SF, why draft kemba when we have bayless with a slightly close if not 100% identical skill-set.
Have you ever seen him play? And not a youtube highlight pack..I've heard he is more of a power forward. I just feel Kanter may turn out the better player, don't know why.
i've watched him play and he's nothing like a power forward - in fact, that's what all the criticism he received was about, not playing like a big man. It's kind of a no brainer when the kid himself says he's a perimeter player and wants to play SF at the next level. If a player like Bargnani taught us anything, it's that you can't necessarily mold a player into what you want when the player isn't determined to. Bargnani plays like a SF but obviously if you ever put him at that spot he wouldn't stand a chance trying to guard guys out there. Perry Jones is noted for his quickness and athleticism. Baylor would run drills in practice where players would dribble from end to end and Perry Jones was always the fastest guy, beating out the guards. Not in sprints, in dribbling the ball. The skills he has possess a serious look IMO, and that's what people mean when they say he has the most upside outside of Kyrie Irving. The workouts will tell us a lot about not only him but Derrick Williams and what positions they're really suited to.

Don`t want to tease u abit but I felt I had to because ballboy where were you in this draft thread when I was writing posts about every play by play sequence by Perry in every single baylor game of this season. So its actually funny coming from a ballboy saying I only watched his youtube highlight pack and guessing I didn`t watch a single baylor game
Yeah, you *heard* and didn`t watch... did u even watch the games when he played without mr ballhog dunns, like where he handled the point forward duty like going coast to coast from one end to the other end and had the ball in his hand most of the time to initiate plays for others. Guess not.

That's the biggest reason Calderon is so bad defensively. Handles screens as bad as anyone, he doesn't have the strength for it. Add that to slow footspeed and you have the perfect recipe for the league's worst defensive PG
Look at Rondo, CP3, Tony Parker. These are not huge/strong point guards but are considered good defenders. Sure strength helps, but it's not essential to being a good point guard. It's more about effort, knowing when to go under/over screens and knowing your opponents tendencies.
I'd say the biggest reason Jose is bad defensively is because of the footspeed. Even without screens, he just can't stay in front of anyone, and he's a fairly big point guard.
Paul is not great with screens. There's a reason we always beat them, Deron-Boozer ripped them apart every matchup, etc. He's good at getting steals and is fine with help defence for other teammates, but I'm not buying he's better at protecting the pnr than a Derek Fisher, let alone the standout guys like Rose, Westbrook, etc.
Parker has Duncan behind him. Rondo IS a big strong PG.
Most PGs in the NBA are bad with screens. I think it's more of a case of the strength/speed guys like Rose, Westbrook, Rondo, Holliday being assets with them while the guys who suck with them are the standard. Calderon is the exception - he's worse than everyone with them. When you have a really smaller player like DJ Augustin, Jonny Flynn or Kemba there's a possibility you're getting someone worse than most with them. That's one of the reasons I kind of like Knight for us

Perry's got as much slack for his red flags as anyone here. Maybe too much. It seems like a lot of prospects can be misread mentally. There's so much bull-sh*t going around from agents and coaches and scouts that you just don't know. Like Joe Alexander was supposed to be the hardest worker in the league and a guy who sleeps in the gym and then was the laziest player on the team after he got drafted. A year ago Greg Monroe was the motivional issues guy. So much for that. I remember when Jordan Hill was a 21 year old PF with no hands or offensive game at all or feel for the game, who somehow was projected a borderline top 5 pick all year just because of "he has such a great motor!!!" Motor is overrated for lottery picks. Give me talent every day. It wouldn't surprise me if a ton of the psst psst Perry Jones talk is fabricated by agents and scouts who want him to drop.
I'm not saying the concerns aren't valid but Monroe and Gay are too guys where the GMs took the "doesn't have drive" concern too far. Shelden Williams and Ekpe Udoh going ahead of those guys is ridiculous. I'm not sure who the Williams/Udoh of this draft would be if Perry fell to 7 or 8 - Well Kawhi Leonard seems like he could be a classic 'Why the hell would they take a energy wing over a potential star... but he has motor!' pick, but I'd be shocked if he went top 10. Then again a year ago I never dreamed Udoh would go 6 at this point. Maybe Kemba is that guy but it seems like he falls into a different category of overrated prospects (big college stars with games that won't translate). I guess Valanciunas falls into the Jordan Hill camp of "A skinny 7 footer with no offensive game or awareness on either side of the court... but he plays hard!!!" projects
It's going to be a glorious day... I feel my luck could change

im pretty sure demar can do that off the board edge 360 dunk too damn y didn`t he do that in the dunk contest. i like the one leg high up dunk, thats innovative, other than that these dunks are better than all of blake griffins dunk except the off the board one arm hanging on the rim dunk.

Just out of curiosity, if the Raps picked one of the SF's (Barnes or Jones) and traded for a second lottery pick, say #8 and Kemba Walker and Jonas Valanciunas were still on the board, who do you pick if you were BC ,assuming Motiejunas was already picked
?

The point is CP3 is still considered a good defender (or at least before his knee surgery). Rondo's 6-1 and 170 lbs. The guy's not big and strong. A big, strong point guard would be around 6-3 200 lbs. Most players that enter the league are not strong straight out of college (eg. DeRozan, Bosh) They grow into their body as they develop. Getting by screens is more of a strength issue than a height one, so there's no reason to think Walker wouldn't be able to get stronger and put on a little more muscle without sacrificing his speed.

I'd much rather take a gamble on Perry Jones than Kanter. The draft combine will make or break Enes in my mind. If he measures 6'10 or under, average wingspan, poor vertical/agility... are you still interested?
He's already missed out on a couple key years of development and that could be extended if there's a lockout. Can't forget about the concerns with his knees. His game is played beneath the rim (rarely dunks), prefers to faceup, and he's another potential defensive liability... certainly isn't going to be anchoring our D.

Was he having motivational issue, I thought the scouts attacked on his lack of motor ability. I was a huge fan of this guy and wanted him on our team so bad a year ago, last year scouts said he has top 5 potential in the draft yet he still didn`t declare and I was upset because our team doesn`t need him but his skillset was just so damn unique especially for his size. There he is now averaging a double double and close to 1 stl 1 blk per game in the last 2 months...damn.
Yeah the red flags issue are inconsistent sometimes, I even mentioned how cp3 had personality issue which was written by the espn scouting article and cp3 so far so good. PJ3 is also being slammed on by the scouts on his lack of motor ability just like greg monroe. But PJ3 has off the chart talent, and there is no doubt in my mind that he would be a consensus number one pick overall if he had the scoring mentality of DWill that goes along with his off the chart athleticism and ball handling ability.

I rather use the second lottery pick on Urkel and appoint him as our head coach over jay instead

I guess one reason why I'm concerned with P.Jones is he averaged one three point attempt every three games and only hit at a 20% rate. I don't think it's good drafting too many guys who struggle from three and hope they will get better. He will improve but to what extent?

When you have the potential of Perry Jones many skills come to you easy. All it takes is a bit of work and he could become a decent long-range shooter. I don't want anyone to think I'm on his bandwagon though. If it were me I'd stay away from Perry Jones, I've seen too many of his type fail. I hope I'm wrong.
