April 8th-13th Game Thread

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Wed Apr 6, 2011 3:52 pm

This seems to make more sense instead of not having a game thread. Feel free to create one if you insist and it can be merged to this one once the game is complete.

Well, as there was no thread for the game vs the Spurs, I am just posting this here.

I was really susprised by one more stupid decision by Larry Drew. Not only is he a bad coach who in addition has not a tough mind to prevent his players to play the way they prefer, he also gives bad decisions in the only thing that he can "contribute" right now: substitutions.
Against the Spurs on Tuesday he put into the game Wilkins, Teague and Thomas all three at the same time, while only Teague has played before in the game and not for a long period (as usual). This was at the beginning of the 4th quarter and the Spurs took advantage to open a small difference using their experience and the smaller weight all those players of ours had on the referees.
By the way, Thomas and Wilkins showed that they could play more.

Other things that caught my attention:
- we put like 2 or 3 balls inside the paint all game long. I believe all three were baskets.
- Teague has no experience. After three consecutive hustle plays by Horford, he passed him the ball for a long two that, not surprisingly, was an airball. Dude has to know when is appropriate to pass the ball to a companion.
- play 4 is Jamaal dribbling all the time while trying to get a screen from Horford and, as it did not work, he insisted, insisted and insistyed and then tryed to pass the ball for losing it. I guess plays 1-3 is JJ doing a similar thing.
- Collins did not defend Duncan well this time. And he did not attempt a single shot. Zaza, Thomas and Armstrong could have played more. Was it that difficult? When you just have 4 players on offense it is easier for them to defense. Although usually we play as we only have one: JJ.
The greatest thrill is not in killing, but in letting live.

Not our game, but I'm posting it here. Dwight Howard got called for 10 seconds on a free throw against Charlotte. He then got a T for throwing the ball into the corner meaning he misses the next game. I only post this because it could be interesting if the officials are in his head going into the playoffs. I wouldn't mind seeing the sub-50% FT shooting Dwight against us.

WOW!

We are worried about a guy named "TWIN", who has no real relevance besides being a big to ineffectively throw at Dwight Howard.

No word and damn straight we are worried. His ability to play Howard straight up defensively for however many minutes he can stay in the game is the difference between being able to play with them and the worst sweep in terms of point differential in the history of the playoffs.

If it wasn't stated anywhere else, Josh will sit thru the weekend, as I saw on the CBS fantasy page.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

Dumb play at the end of the first quarter bailed out by even dumber play by Pacers.

Josh Powell is terrible.

Completely random, but maybe HMFFL can help: anyone else's RealGM logging them out each time they visit another page?

Only saw the 2nd half -- Teague looked good in a worthless 4th.

I'm starting to sour on Teague, it looks like both Drew and him are convinced he's a SG for this team.
He never keeps his dribble alive.

That's the position he played in college and if that's the position he's most comfortable with and will allow us to get the most amount of production out him then by all means go ahead. There's no shame in being a scoring "pg" in today's NBA I just wish he'd manage to do even that consistently enough.

Did we watch the same 4th qtr? I saw Teague flying around -- basically unstoppable.

It takes time for a PG to grow up. He has more to learn than any other position.

Here's what we know:
1) He's blazing fast -- a one-man fast break.
2) He's super quick -- almost no one can smother him.
3) He's got a very promising offensive game.
4) He's a superior defender ... and with growth, he could be special defensively.

Now, his vision worries me and his decision-making is poor but why are we speaking so badly about a kid who could be Rondo-like defensively with a better offensive game?

Forgot the game was on -- didn't turn the TV on until the 1:26 mark. Somebody please tell me we went to the bench early and rested our starters.

Trade Josh held scoreless and didn't hit a single three :argue: :curse: :crowded: Seriously thugh Hawks are dead in the water if they keep Joe and Marvin they are both big SGs.

Hawks need a point guard and center. Playoffs and Hawks future will be interesting.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
