Kobe endorses Shaw as Jackson

Post#1 » by The Skyhook » Fri Apr 8, 2011 11:09 pm

“I feel all of the players believe in coach B-Shaw,” Bryant said the Lakers’ Friday morning shootaround. “We have such a rapport with him. He’s been with us for such a long time. We all have a bit of a bias towards him.

“I don’t want to get in the way of management. But we’ve all kind of had our eye on him for a while.”

I think Shaw deserves a shot after Phil is gone. Kobe basically says what most reporters have already said about Shaw and the respect the players have for him. Chances are the core of this will be the same until the Kobe/Pau era is over so it only makes sense that someone they are familiar with steps in.

I think he would be a good fit. He has Kobe's respect and understands all the players . He knows the triangle and has good chemistry with the team. Shaw has served his dues as an assistant as Rambis did and deserves a shot. I know he was being recruited by the Cavs last season but he choose to stay in LA.

Not surprising. MGMT should do whats best for the team and franchise and not whats best for Kobe Bryant. If thats Shaw then so be it but if it's another coach then don't let Kobe stand in your way.

I don't think the process would be this simple. They'll likely interview 2 or 3 candidates before naming someone. This is LA man, nothing happens without a suspense and drama.

Lights! Camera! Action!

There is no other viable option for the Lakers and specifically Kobe. No shocker here. Shaw was the obvious replacement before Rambis signed in Minnesota. Kurt left because he had a poor chance to be head coach because Shaw was the front runner all along.

I see Kobe playing for 3-5 more seasons. 3 more years of Prime after glow. Then always those extra couple years of great players not knowing when to let go. Or in Kobes case when to pass the torch. And he should know this well. Shaq wouldn't pass him the torch which was a key wedge to their breakup.
He will continue to be effective into his late 30's. But by then the team will be or should be Pau's team pending a new superstar being signed. Paus career will/can extend much further than kobes. A PF/C with Paus skills can play into his early 40's. Especially since his body doesn't take the beating most bigs take. Although Bynum is younger his knees are old and his mind is weak. Andrew doesn't have the pedigree to be a leader unlike a well polished and respectable Pau Gasol.

Should Kobe leave during Shaws head coaching career. Shaw will continue to run the triangle offense. I don't see why he shouldn't with Gasol and Bynum as the teams future. Yes Gasol is 30. But he could easily play great ball until he is 40. Something Kobe will not be able to do.

This is my first post here at real gm. Nice lively group in this sub forum and throughout all the team forums. Incredible effort.

Shaw would be a great replacement.

Location SF Airport headed back to LA :: Buss can get Shaw for da cheap and already had player (Kobe) buy in so it makes sense.

With that said Buss and Kuppy could feel that we are still on the trail to actually compete for the chip and other top names from NBA and NCAA could come into play!

We just dont know and it's gonna be a while before we find out

The list will be extremely short.

Laker coaching criteria:

1. Understanding of the triangle offense. Done.
2. Understanding of the triangle offense. Done.
3. Kobe Bryants blessing. Done.

There are zero other options in the league or college who fill the requirements.

No other team in the league runs the triangle. Minnesota does not run the triangle.

Kobe would not approve of changing the offense. No way in hell. Simple as that.

Anyone think its crazy for kobe to try and pick a replacement like this?

we need someone who can stare kobe in the eye and say, kobe what are you doing you're playing like an idiot.

kobe picking his mate shaw. would be terrible. kobe running a team basically would be horrible.

I'd like to see Fisher become an assistant pretty soon too. He's the guy that can reach Kobe at a mental level that very few can.

Absolutely. And this has been mentioned before. I wish it would happen over the summer so we can use his money and roster spot to pick up an athletic wing defender.

players can say they respect someone all they want but when they start losing, are these going to respect a 1st time head coach? Lakers usually go after big name coaches regardless of who in house, dont forget the Magic era, I bet alot of you guys here thought he was going to be a good coach.
