I used to think the same thing. Out of high school he looked like the smooth playmaking SG we have been drooling for. This year he seems to be an average SF that relies too heavily on his pullback jumper. How is he any different then Xavier Henry? (Which would be an upgrade, but scary for a top-5 pick)

Henry's ast/t0: .77, Barnes' ast/to: .74. Henry's PPR: -3.44. Barnes' PPR: -3.38. I have no idea where Barnes is mentally or how much of an awesome killer instinct he has, but I do know that he plays very much like Henry. More Henry/Barnes comps: PER: 21.9/19.3, TS%: 59/52, pts/pos: 1.18/1.10. FTA/pos: .28/.25. TO%: 17/14. Oreb%: 5.1/7.1. Barnes makes up a bit with rebounding and fewer turnovers, but his shot...oi, his shot. He's a classic jack of all trades/master of none and had he not dominated the hotbed of high school basketball known as Ames, Iowa, he'd be just another ok shooting toolsy wing player with ok numbers in his freshman season.

He relies on step back jumpers and 1 dribble shots. The guy doesn't break anyone down off the dribble and that's about the last thing the Wolves need right now is someone who can't take his own man off the dribble from the perimeter. He definitely has a better handle than Wes, but his shot is suspect and he really can't break down his defender off the dribble. If he doesn't have upper level athleticism or a good sneaky change of pace game, he's going to be in for a rude awakening in the NBA. If you want a guy who can slash and score, Kemba Walker is probably your best bet and he should be the pick if the Wolves land in the 4th or 5th spot. He's everything Kahn thought he saw in Flynn. Beyond that, Burks is probably the closest thing you are looking for. He can't shoot all that well, but he can certainly slash. And yes, he has similar weaknesses to Wes...as an 18 year old, however. He's 5 years younger...which is yet another example of why you don't ever, ever, ever draft 23 year olds.

This video is nice on Barnes

As painful as it is to admit, I need to agree with a comment Chad Ford made. "Out of high school he was Kobe, now he looks like Luol Deng."

i agree with pretty much everythying here...i struggle to see him as a top flight player but in a draft like this a luol deng player(3rd best player on contending team) would be fine at the 3-4th-5th spot imo. i disagree on walker, i definitely wouldn't want him here...he is 5'9/5'10 and more of a 2 then a 1, i don't like the look of that defensively and i don't wanna end up with jonny or nate robinson 2.0.

i really like burks but i wouldn't be reaching for him in the top 8/9 picks...i'd love to combine something to move up and grab him with the memphis pick, our current wings are just so dam one dimensional offensively, no one is capable or willing to challenge the basket and try and draw fouls, collapse the defense, create for someone. i think burks, despite not having a reliable jump shot, would fill a glaring need on this team.

Sorry for hijacking.

I meant the walker reference in terms of wanting a slasher in the draft. He is only value if we think he can defend the 1. He is what we thought Flynn could be. He could break down a defense, the question is if he could playmake and kick out. He did not really need to do that in college.

Again, Maybe he can be the slashing point guard we need.

Guess I'm on the hype train for this kid. We just need a tall/athleticism/defense combination player so bad I'll reach here.

I gotta change mine too. Biyombo has a rare combination of freakish genetics & skill (defense being one of them). He keeps moving up. He's gotta be a lock for the lottery now. I thought 8 would be too early (realistically 12-15) but not anymore.

-1 Walker
+1 Biyombo

Kid is a good athlete and slasher. Hopefully Rambis is gone though so he wont ruin this kids confidence as well by making him play to his weaknesses.
