WWE: Edge's legacy
11 world titles
13 tag team titles (most in history)
1 united states championship
2001 KOTR winner
2 time MITB
2010 Royal Rumble winner
11 world titles in a 5 year period. His heel run from 05-08 was one of the greatest of all time.
Only person to win MITB and the Royal Rumble.
Great tag teams such as E&C, Rated RKO, Rated Y2J, w/ Benoit, w/ Hogan, w/ Mysterio.
On top of being a great promo cutter, and a great in ring competitor for most of his career
all this despite the injuries he's faced from broken neck to groin injury, torn pectoral, torn achillies tendon to whatever just happened now.
Where does Edge rank up all time IF this is truly it?
This isn't my thread just wanted to pass it along

Re: WWE: Edge's legacy
So sad. Last year with HBK, this year with Edge. Probably next year with either trips or taker. All my favorite childhood wrestlers are retiring year after year.
Loved edge with the brood.
Loved edge with edge and christian
Loved edge with the matt hardy/lita real life angle.
Loved edge with the edgeheads.
Loved edge as the ultimate opportunist.
Loved edge with RatedRKO.
Loved edge with vickie.
Sadly though, I knew it was time. Not saying I wasn't shocked my his announcement, I was. But it was time for him to hang em up. His latest run in the WWE since returning at the rumble, has been good, but it hasn't been edge good. I would have liked to see him have one more feud with Christian, but sadly this won't happen.
If there was anything I'd change, it'd for sure be the number of World/WWE champion titles. I think 11 time champion in such little time is pretty silly. But oh well.
I hope he's able to heel himself up, and live normally for the rest of his life.

Re: WWE: Edge's legacy
Although I wasn't the biggest Edge fan, I am pretty sad to see him go. I agree that since his return at the Rumble it appeared that he lost a step but he was still a great all around talent. Would've loved to see Edge/Christian at TLC or another Edge/Del Rio match. Take care Edge, best of luck.

Re: WWE: Edge's legacy
Man just saw it on youtube. Very surprised to hear the retirement. I knew it was coming, though I thought he had another year left in him. The man had a great legacy and future HOF.
Though it sucks to see him leave, it might be good new for Christian. With Edge out of the picture, he might finally get his chance to win the title.

Re: WWE: Edge's legacy
All in all, it's good news for Edge that they caught it early. I'm sure he would have pushed for at least another year had they not.
And it's good news for Christian too, as this has to mean he'll get his overdue title run now.

Re: WWE: Edge's legacy
As previously stated, it's shocking but very plausible.
The guy has gone through so many injuries thanks to all the crazy matches he's been apart of.
Guy will be a Hall of Famer for sure. Another good one gone.

Re: WWE: Edge's legacy
Celtics you took a lot of the words out of my mouth.
I really think the story Edge told is legit, he was having tests and they realized his neck was a lot worse than they thought and that was it. In fact it wouldn't surprise me if the whole thing happened today. That's the best possible explanation for why Christian wasn't there. Speaking of, its sad that he was back with the company for 2 years and we never saw that feud.

That's what makes him so great IMO. Everytime one of the "bigger" stars went down or left for whatever reason, Edge stepped in and was the man and never missed a beat. Honestly, he kind of got screwed in his prime due to the John Cena domination era for awhile. Edge's heel runs during that time were golden and was totally held back by WWE pushing Cena to the moon, even though the fans were way more behind Edge.

Re: WWE: Edge's legacy
Wow, that sucks...and his announcement was a classy one at that. Loved how he ran down his past successes and the nod to JR was a great touch. Big fan of E&C, and the Brood...funny he didn't mention The Conquistadors
I think his passion for the business is too great, and I would love to see him stick around, whether it be backstage, or on the announce table. Last week when he was at the announce table, I found him really good on the mic, and also loved the shots he dished out on Cole. Something along the lines of, "it should be a crime to see you with your shirt off, or see you wrestle again"....something like that.

I assume you put him in the HOF, but not next year because the Rock is probably going in.

He'd be a great guy at the announce table, like JBL was. Maybe have a spot match or two. Maybe his career will be like HBK's where he takes a hiatus and then is able to come back full time.

I'd bet against it. For one, HBK was 37 when he came back Edge is 37 now. The fact that Edge retired with such haste, the fact that he didn't have that farewell match and/or feud with Christian that I'm guessing both of them wanted tells me that this was very serious and he literally could've been one bad bump from paralysis.

Re: WWE: Edge's legacy
For those who don't know, Edge had the same surgery on his neck that Stone Cold did. Stone Cold quit because of that, knowing that one wrong fall could leave him paralyzed from the neck down. Edge is following in his footsteps.
Edge's legacy? One of the best all-around performers ever, just never one of those box office juggernauts like Hogan, Austin and Rock. He's a notch below the Flairs, HBK's and Takers of the world. Quite an amazing career, and like he said in his speech, Cliff Levingston never envisioned him becoming this good when he first debuted; not even close.
Edge will be missed but he's got so much talent that can be utilized if he's willing to. Get Booker off the mic and put Edge on. He was downright sick on commentary during the Del Rio/Christian match on Smackdown last week.

It is a bit odd that now Stone Cold is saying he could work a full schedule for another two years.

I assume they'll wait until the year after next to put Rock in the HOF, given that he'll have another match before then.

Maybe, but they but Flair in the same year he had that retirement match vs HBK.

HBK dissapeared after his WM match w/ SCSA.
Ric Flair wrestled till he was damn near 60, IJS, anything is possible.

Re: WWE: Edge's legacy
^^^ Yeah but when he came back in 02 he was 37 the same age Edge is now ie making a comeback less likely. Ric Flair is a terrible example because the situations are completely different. Edge is retiring due to severe neck issues. Ric Flair still wrestles primarily because he owes a crapload of money to a million different people.
