Williams is nothin like Joey in terms of fluidity. Complete opposite of Joey who was pretty much a brainless robot

Chad Ford says the Raptors top 3 looks like this:
http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/37862
Andrea (Toronto)
If the Raps got the number one pick would they choose Barnes or Irving?
Chad Ford (1:45 PM)
I have them taking Irving. I think that one is set in stone. I actually think Derrick Williams might be next on their board, then Barnes.

After Kyrie, who would the Wolves be most interested in come draft day?
Chad Ford (1:42 PM)
Harrison Barnes. I also think you could see them grab another point if they can't get Irving. Brandon Knight and Kemba Walker are both possibilities. They also like the Jimmer.
Why in the world would the Wolves be looking for another point guard when they're apparently finally going to bring over Rubio next year?
A backup plan, just in case Rubio asks for a trade again

is there any chance that we made a mistake by teaming up with Bosh? I mean what does he offer that other cheaper guys don't?
Chad Ford

Remains to be seen. But I do think that if the Heat stumble in the playoffs, we'll see them explore a trade for Bosh. If the Heat can get several pieces and a little cap flexibility in return, probably will be worth it long term.

If I'm the Wolves I don't write anything in with Rubio with the way he's playing in Europe. There's not even a guarantee that he's an NBA caliber player at this point, let alone a long term starter
The way I see it Kahn has always had a business type perspective to GMing, so if he thinks Rubio's not good he's going to treat it as a sunk cost rather than let it effect his future decisions. I think there's a chance Kahn really does think Rubio's the bomb and is going to light up the NBA, but if he doesn't, it wouldn't surprise me if he went PG again

Since I don't have a ton of faith in DWill being a very good two way SF any thoughts on grabbing him and then trading down for Kanter or Val + another pick or prospect?
Considering he's pretty much the consensus #2 or #3 pick in this draft there might be a lot of interest from teams that could actually use him as a 4 whereas we're pretty set at the 4 spot.
Maybe Kanter/Val + another 2011 pick? Even better would be a 2012 pick (probably with some protection)?
*Only if we're not 100% sure D Will can play SF.

Depends what our scouts think. I like Kanter as much as Williams, so I'd rather have Kanter + assets than Williams. But I would not move down from Williams or Kanter to take anyone else in this draft, quality and BPA > quantity and I personally don't have the faith in Val, Biyombo, Vesely, Knight picks as I do Williams and Kanter
I'm not concerned about D Will being a 4 long term. We should be aiming to get a better player than Ed Davis with this pick. If we think Williams will be better than Davis it doesn't matter what position he plays. If he's a future 21 and 9 guy at PF that's fabulous and we have a great one two punch with him and Demar, it just means we trade Ed who I'm not blown away by upside wise

Thank you.
For some reason I thought it was sooner than that, though.

I for one don't care if DWill is an SF, a PF or even a true tweener - the guy is a hell of a ball player, and is clearly a top-3 talent in an otherwise questionable draft. You draft the BPA and sort out the rest later. If he's still on the board and Irving isn't, wherever we end up, we take him and run.

Also the fact that Williams can play SF even if that's not his future position, means he can log 25 minutes a game next year while Ed gets his 30, so neither player's value will be diminished by PT if we have to trade one

Sounds like Beasley/Bargnani/Randolph/Yi/etc, no thanks. We need to be sure he has a position in the NBA or else his impact won't be felt in games.

I'd do it. Walk away with a Kanter/Val then pick up anyone with the other pick.

Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 7
I don't think D-Will will be a successful PF in this league. If you want to draft him as a PF then I don't think you realize what NBA PF's need to do. He's shorter than Al Harrington FFS and Harrington is a 3/4 himself.
It's not like he's got the body of an Elton Brand or Ben Wallace and get away with being short. Heck, he doesn't even have Joey's body but is an inch or so taller.
The guy needs to turn into an SF in the NBA.

I agree, but that's a question every team should be asking when determining D Will as a top 3 pick. I personally don't have our situation at PF effecting that decision.
I personally think the problem with Beasley isn't his size, it's that he's a) Dumb and b) Soft, neither of which seems to apply to Williams, at least I don't think. In college Williams seems to use contact pretty well. Beasley never did. If D Will has problems at PF it'll be because he can't use contact because of his size, but I'm thinking he will, he has the mentality and strength.
Bargnani is a unique case cause he's a SG in a C's body which is a whole nother level of WTF tweener. It's not about size, it's about skillset. Williams game makes sense at PF and SF, the question is size and footspeed
Randolph looks like he could be pretty good, but his problem was always his brain and not fitting at a position. Yi has one of the worst feels for the game I've ever seen. He's Joey Graham in Bargnani's body

Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 7
IMO Williams will be someone who can play 2 position rather than a tweener who can't play either. And Bargnani and Randolph comparisons are kida unfair because Williams is a much better player than the two. Now Beasley was a stud but I think most can agree that if he had a brain he would have become something.

Funny how you only throw out bust tweeners - only two of which are 3/4 tweeners. For all we know, he's a prime Marion, or prime Jamison, or Josh Smith with more offense and less defense. All of those players make their impact felt in games. All I know is that his talent level is in a tier above everyone in the draft not named Irving or Barnes, and the league is driven by elite talent - not by trading quality for quantity.

I found the majority of times I played with that thing, we fell to 4, 5 or 6. It's definitely a possibility -- we're more likely to be 5th or 4th than 3rd, 2nd or 1st.
