Derrick Williams declares for the draft!

Post#201 » by Alfred » Thu Apr 14, 2011 2:44 am

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/21 ... _NBA_Draft

Derrick Williams is heading to the NBA after his sophomore season.

"After careful consideration and with the support of my family and Coach Miller, I have decided to declare for the 2011 NBA Draft," said Williams. "I have enjoyed my two years at Arizona both on and off the court. I want to thank my teammates, who are like brothers to me, my coaches and all Wildcat Fans for making my experience an unforgettable one."

Why was nobody talking about Biyombo prior to the Hoops Summit? Because he isn't a good basketball player. He has done absolutely nothing.

Perhaps it's because Biyombo played in Europe (as a young prospect) and got less exposure? It's also a bit harder to dominate men in a pro league when you're a young prospect. Jeremy Tyler dominated HS, and couldn't handle Europe. Brandon Jennings was a #1 player for his class, and didn't do particularly well in Europe. Hell even Denham Brown scored 111 points in a high school game.

I wouldn't hang my hat on Rival's rankings either. I mean Rivals had Ater Majok was #13 in his class based on 1 HS All-Star game (Derby Classic) and a couple of workouts he did against a folding chair. He's terrible. Fab Melo, another highly ranked foreign big man who came to the U.S. and did well on the AAU circuit, is now struggling to get minutes on Syracuse.

It's not like I care one way or the other. I'm just confused as to why that guy seems to think that Enes Kanter is can't miss and Biyombo is an all-hype project. Apparently he couldn't fathom any reason for some people to prefer Biyombo to Kanter, so I'm coming up with some.

If he has good people around him he should already know he won't drop past 5, and that's if things go terribly wrong for him.

I think Roy Williams told him worse, 5th-11th. It could be a great bonding experience for Ed and BC.

yeah he wants ppl to shut up about the "one and done players" debate, what a selfish guy he is.

What does this mean for the Raptors after the Cavs select Irving?

Since I don't think Barnes is coming out (just my opinion) we take him. It's a two player draft, imo.

He was born literarally on the same day as I was. In the same year too. I would kind of be a bit freaked out if we drafted him.

Minny has 1st odds, and we know their love of PGs. It's either win the lottery this year, or get another piece while we keep building towards next year's draft.

I'm satisfied with Ed at the PF spot, D-will doesn't seem to be a true SF and doesn't really satisfy a need, I would much rather go with Barnes (here's hoping he declares).

Give me the 6'11'' 280 pound monster over the 6'9'' kid he just burst onto the scene with a good showing at the Hoops Summit.

I respect your opinion, but I strongly disagree with it.

O K that was fair. Let me try. Give me the uber-athletic Beast with a 7'7'' wingspan over the slow-footed dude with the 7'1" wing span.

Well, lets not quit now.

Give me the kid who scouts prefer heavily to Biyombo, rather than the kid who none of us knew a week ago.

You're missing the point. I don't prefer Biyombo. I'm pointing out that it's easy to make one player sound better when you're hyperbolizing each to fit your point of view. One is a 'shorter kid' and the other one is a 'taller monster'. It doesn't actually say anything and you can easily describe them in reversed terms.

Biyombo reminds me of Ibaka. Some people overrate wingspan too much and don't look at actual basketball skills.

Two player draft. If it's not Top 2, trade it.

I'd be happy to if we get barnes (if he declares), knight and kanter (depending on measurements) if we dont get a top 5 pick then we trade it
