Draft Express just has the players listed. They're not yet taking into account team needs, from what I understand.

I thought it was a certainty that Barnes is staying at UNC....

On defense, Kanter is very good in the post. Because he has a strong base, he's difficult to back down. He plays smart positional defense, using his strength and bulk to his advantage. He's active and alert and plays with great energy on the defensive end. His length helps to block a few shots, but I don't expect him to be a great shot blocker at the next level. His quickness is adequate enough to stay in front of most Centers, but he'll have trouble with quicker, perimeter oriented big men. He has very good court awareness - and anticipates well. His biggest and most desirable quality is his ability to rebound. When a shot is missed, more likely than not it will be Kanter pulling down the rebound. His bulk and length help him a lot here, as does his intelligence and timing. His high energy motor is also in evidence, as he frequently beats smaller, quicker players to the ball. He simply seems to want the ball more than everyone else..... and if he keeps that desire, he should be an excellent rebounder in the NBA.

From the Jan 4th article on Bulletsforever.

I remain deeply intrigued by Kanter. Everyone seems to think he's intelligent, hard working, and has great basketball instincts. If his knees check out and he shows the ability to overcome his physical limitations, I think you sign the talented young big and don't look back.

I wonder how he would look next to McGee and/or Booker. It seems like between those three, we should be able to guard pretty much any C/PF combo in the league. Kanter supposedly has a decent jumpshot out to 20 ft, which would be more than enough to space the floor on pick and rolls.

Argh. I think I want this guy, but I don't want to find out he's slow as molasses. I'm going to go back to scouring google for video... I'm trying to find full games from his time in Turkey.

That is the popular opinion. However, he has not announced that decision yet, and some speculate the longer he takes to announce a decision the more likely he is to declare. We will see.

Kanter by all accounts has a good bball IQ and the desire to rebound

we need to take him, he'd be our smartest big man

The good news is I was just messing around with Uwe Blab. I was actually looking for an excuse to write his name more than anything.

Ya know what...Williams or get me out of this draft.

We'll have to see whats going on with the lottery but that's just how I feel. We have the pieces to trade up if need be. Lets do it.

The most likely picks from fourth-worst are #6 or 7.

Chances are slightly less than 50-50 the Wizards pick in the top-4. Expect a pick at #4, 5, 6 or 7. Be happy with a top-3 pick.

This feels like a Derrick Williams or bust draft. I believe trading the pick might be a way to go if a big is made available.

To expand on thinker's post, we have the following draft odds:

Top 2 picks .245
Top 3 picks .378
Top 4 picks .477
Top 5 picks .828

Lets hope that Barnes declares. I agree with the recent poster that said that the longer he waits, the more likely he is to declare. What do you guys think the most likely draft order is if Barnes does declare? I see:

(1)Irving
(2)Williams
(3)Barnes
(4)Kanter

After that, things look to drop off.

He wants to play SF, he's actually slimming down to improve quickness/agility. At least that's what he's telling everyone on campus.

Actually, that's 5th or 6th as most likely. The chart starts with the number of ping pong balls, so the second number listed is the odds (.119, or 11.9%) of getting the 1st pick.

Not that it matters much, 5th-6th-7th will be pretty unappealing no matter what.

About 40% cumulative chance to get in the top 3. That's what's really critical. Those odds would have dropped precipitously if the Wiz would have pulled out one more win.

About 50-50 to go in the top 4 or 5-7.

Earlier in the tank process, I was fixed on getting into the 3rd worst record, far higher cumulative chance of getting in the top 4 due to the post-Lottery slotting. And with Sullinger, Barnes, Williams, Irving, Jones, top 4 would have been key to get a key contributor or prime trade bait (or both). With Sullinger, Jones, and possibly Barnes all out of the Draft, there's precious little difference between 4 & 7, IMO.

Best hope: Top 3 pick and Barnes comes out. I get that in a normal year Barnes (and maybe Williams) wouldn't be worth a top 3 pick, but it is what it is, and the team has to maximize the value of the situation as it presents itself. To me, that means taking one of those 2 guys, since the alternative is less likely to provide a greater value.

At 4-7, I guess I'd take Kanter if he's on the board, but probably look to trade the pick if at all possible.

We definitely sidestepped a major malfunction with Sacramento getting blown out and New Jersey losing. A win tonight and this would have been the story of our balls....

Wiz have the 18th pick via the Atlanta pick FYI.
