Who gets your End of Season Awards?

Post#1 » by TheJohnWallShow » Thu Apr 14, 2011 1:12 am

Rookie of the Year-
Griffin, even though I dont really consider him a rookie due to a lot of time playing and practicing with a pro-squad. Other than him, id go Wall then Cousins in 3rd.

Most Improved-
Michael Beasley, increased his PPG to over 20, slight increase in FG% and nearly doubled his 3pt FG percentage. Runner up his teammate Kevin Love who was a rebounding monster this year.

Defensive Player of the Year-
Dwight Howard, no one impressed enough to knock him off the top.

Sixth Man of the Year-
Wes Matthews, this is a hard award to pick because he did start a good amount of games much like Lamar Odom. But overall, Matthew filled in remarkable for the injured all star Roy.

Coach of the Year-
Tom Thibodeau- All the injuries to their core post game, and tied for the best record in the NBA.

Most Valuable Player- Derrick Rose, unstoppable player this year, exciting to watch, best player on the best team. Runner up Dwight Howard. Amazing year for him as well.

ROY: Blake "Superior" Griffin
DPOY: Dwight Howard
MIP: Kevin Love / Derrick Rose
MVP: Derrick Rose
SMOY: Lamar Odom
COY: Can't pick a favorite. Tom Thibodeau, Nate McMillan, George Karl, Gregg Popovich. Take your poison.

Surprise of the year: Derrick Rose becoming a beast.
Surprise rookie of the year: Gary Neal
Most disappointing team of the year: Orlando Magic - They have the talents to be better than this. Stan Van Gundy needs to be fired.

Trade of the year: Thunder - Celtics deal - Thunder finally got a legit big and the Celtics got a good backup in Jeff Green. While the C's have been slumping, they didn't do the wrong thing. It was high-risk-high-reward in the first place.
Most overpaid of the year: Joe Johnson
Most underpaid of the year: Jared Dudley

Fav Sun of the year (other than Nash): Gortat / Dudley
Most hated Sun of the year: Carter

Commentator of the year: Stacey King - This guy absolutely cracks me up. King on Brook Lopez, "If you're scared, go buy a dog."

I'd rather see Sarver use the money he's saved on some good personnel. ;)

MVP= Derrick Rose (no explanation necessary)
MIP= Kevin Love (53 consecutive double-double streak, 30 point/30 rebound game)
COY= Tim Tibodeau (first year coaching, a lot of injuries... yet, best record)
ROY= Blake Griffin (even though I don't consider him a rookie, by rule, he is a rookie. so there you go)
SMOY= Lamar Odom (an underrated player that gets no love. Lakers bench would be trash w/o him)
DPOY= Grant Hill (we've put him on PGs, SGs, SFs, PFs (like Blake and Dirk), and even C's.. he's 38.)

Most underrated shooter: Jason Richardson
Most underrated sixth man: Jared Dudley

Youre right on Matthews, I thought it was later in the season when he took over. Odom started 35 games though, I wonder what the limit is to be considered a sixth man still.

Okay, says he has to come off the bench more games then he starts, so Lamar makes it by a mere 6 games. Close call.

How is Cole Aldrich a bust when he played in 18 games at under 8 mins a game??
Evan Turner/Ekpe Udoh were the real busts this year, not saying they wont be a solid players in the future though.

Not managing to play NBA games or get playtime is part of being a bust.

Evan Turner was a bust for most the season but he's had nice run recently. He could very well be a bust too but gotta see how he does in the playoffs first before labeling him.
Udoh is useless on offense but has value as a decent role player piece defensively

I think to label a player as a bust, they need to play a decent amount of minutes to allow them to be comfortable and see how they play out from there. Like Robin Lopez, busted. Unlike Beasley, people wrote him off as a bust, ive always thought he was dope. He finally gets a chance to play real minutes and boom 20+ ppg. A lot depends on the team and coach you play under. But I agree, Turner will be a good player, but as far as being drafted so high, he was very unproductive for the bigger part of the year.

Biggest Disappointment HAS to be Lopez...he was given free reign and promised heavy minutes and like some moody child he just couldn't handle it and played his way out of it

Gortat's position to lose next year, easily.

Frightening to think that one of the leading candidates for MVP is also a legit contender for MIP - Rose, though I think Love deserves the MIP

The Suns End of Season Awards.

MVP: Nash. He does it again and again year after year. I dont know where we would be without him

MIP: Channing. He's shown a tremendous improvement in his game this season, not only on the defensive end, and offensive end too. Drives to the rim more, and has a neat little pump fake. (HM: Dudley)

Defensive Player of the Year: Grant Hill. This guy can guard anybody, from small guards, to big forwards. He is an inspiration on the court.

Sixth Man: The Polish Hammer. I never expected Gortat to be such a great player. Most games he played off the bench, and put up great numbers. This guy should be a Sun for lifel (HM: Dudley)

Biggest Disappointment: Lopez. After being the best center in the Western COnference Finals, Lopez's game has fallen off the face of th earth.

Worst Transaction: Toss up between the Hedo/Barbosa trade, or the Brooks/Dragic trade.

Best Transaction: It probably has to be the Orlando trade bcause we got Gortat, and shipped Hedo's contract. Although, the addition of VC hurt our team.
(2nd. Dowdell Signing. Might have found a diamond in the rough here. He knows how to run an offence, and has great hands on defence. I would rather have him run our offence than Aaron freakin' Brooks.)
