Record: 22-60

2011-12 $M: -$22.5

Toronto whiffed on the Chris Bosh contingency plan, and it set the franchise back a couple of years. Year 2 will be better.

For one, the Raptors will have some money to spend. Peja Stojakovic and his $14.5 million will be lifted off the payroll with another $5 million once rhino-rebounder Reggie Evans leaves. What the Raptors really need is to target a legitimate center who can slide Andrea Bargnani to the 3 position where he belongs. Tyson Chandler would be the logical choice there if Mavs owner Mark Cuban uncharacteristically passes on overpaying a center. Otherwise, the Raptors can turn to Nene or Marc Gasol if he hits the market.

Elsewhere, the Raptors have to be happy with the development of Ed Davis, the 21-year-old who finished the last 10 games of the season averaging 13.7 points and 9.1 rebounds. But with that frame, he's not going to do anything to beef up the Raptors' front line, something they need desperately. David West isn't the right direction to go in, but they may talk themselves into

You guys can easily find ESPN Insider articles with a google search. Just type in the name of the article and you'll see the whole thing reposted on some forum somewhere.

Just like how we pasted on Iggy because we needed to keep VC. If Bucks get a tenth pick in the draft, would it be a good idea to trade Bargnani for that pick and some of their worse contracts in return?

I don't like their #10 pick enough to take on some of their bad contracts like Gooden/Salmons/Maggette. Right now it appears that the selection at #10 is going to be guys like T.Jones/Fredette/Donatas/Hamilton/Leonard... so unless someone we like surprisingly drops, I'd rather try to do the same kind of deal for a higher pick (Kings/Jazz/Pistons/Cavs) or try to get other young guys already in the league, or a pick in next year's draft, or even just cap savings.

bargnani to the 3 position where he belongs? didn't we try that when JO was here and it failed miserably?

Problem is that Williams is not 6'8". Even ESPN has him listed at 6'7".

FALSE.
Derrick lists himself as 6'9 and 240. The last time he was officially measured for the Lebron James skills acadaemy it was 6'9 with a 7 foot reach.

At the minimum, he might be 6'8 and a half with out shoes.

DWill is 6'8.5 w/o shoes? That's an NBA 6'10. I don't think so, but if he shows up to get measured then we'll see.

I'll be personally upset if we get Barnes or DWill despite being a fan of the Black falcon all year. It's basically Irving or die trying. And I'm sick and tired of watching Jose and Bayless play. bayless as a backup scoring guard is fine, but as long as having one of them as starter pg I'd puke shtload of blood out of my lung system every single day and bleed myself to death.

I am all for Kanter with/with out Bargnani around

I really hope we win the lottery and Minesota falls to 4th and top 3 drafties will be Irving/DW/Barnes and Kanter is available at 4th

Irving to Minesota for Rubio/4th pick(Kanter) and its much better than just Irving alone

And do Bayless/J.Johnson/Bargnani/Alabi for S&T of Dalembert/Cassipi/F.Garcia/5th pick and move Cassipi/5th pick to Cle(they end up with 3rd pick) for 3rd pick and draft Barnes and Cle draft Jonas or Donatas(Cassipi/Jonas or Donatas/Burks)

Our team

PG:Rubio/Calderon
SG:Derozan/Barbosa
SF:Barnes/Garcia/Klieza
PF:E.Davis/A.Johnson/R.Evans(resign)
C:E.Kanter/S.Dalembert/H.Whiteside

Starting line is ridiclously young with loads of potentials and 2nd unit is proven veterans

Just a pipe dream but i will be happy with Rubio/Kanter(For 1st overall pick)

Just a question for the mods, would it make sense to start a draft thread for people to post predictions (Like which players will go where)?

Just a couple points:

1) Kanter is not an NBA 7-footer. That's not to say don't draft him but he really seems like a guy that you should put next to a long, defensive center. Perkins and Gasol might not get off the ground but they also have standing reaches upwards of 9'3. The elite teams are still anchored by 7-footers, Noah is one guy with a reach below 9' but he makes up for it with an incredible motor and a 37 inch vert. Monroe's one guy that might have a comparable body type to Kanter and he's had success but is the defense ever going to be there?

2) Barnes will probably come out if he thinks he's a lock for the top 3. Despite his flaws, in this draft he still has a shot at #1.

there're so many people on twitter reporting he's declaring, and then some others say he's returning, while everybody's sourcing espn and yahoo sports creating conflicting reports..

I actually think a Monroe/Davis frontcourt would be stellar, as do many Detroit fans who have proposed deals where we send them Ed. Monroe is not an elite defender, but he isn't a liability either (unlike our current C), and with his offensive ability that would give us a very solid frontcourt to build with. If Kanter projects to be the same kind of C as Monroe, that would be an excellent pickup.

And yeah, it would be great for us if Barnes realizes how high he would get drafted this year (vs. more uncertainty next year).

This isn't really the thread for it but people really need to stop thinking that we've got the money to make a play for the top shelf free agent centers this offseason. Aren't we something like 9 mill under the cap BEFORE signing our draft pick and our own free agents? Maybe it will be a strange market with the new CBA having its effects but signing guys like De Jordan is not going to be an option.
