Re: Birds at Yanks
O's are the perfect scrappy April team. Yanks should get back into it...
Hopefully another solid start for AJ Burnett because Hughes is struggling.

Re: Birds at Yanks
Keep in mind, Girardi needs to get as much out of the starters because we don't know how long Hughes will last. After Wieters 2-run homer, Yanks still had 5 runs to err on the side of caution.
As the season progresses (and hopefully the weather gets warmer) the arms will loosen up and starters will go deeper into games...but for now, AJ has the focus that he didn't last season when he was dealing with his divorce.
Confidence...get it into your head. AJ Burnett 3-0. Good start. A lot of baseball left but I'll take it.
ANYONE thing this is a BAD idea sending Hughes out there with a tired arm? I'm worried he might strain and be on the DL.

Yeah, if it was 5-2 or something, AJ would've been yanked. But 7-2 with a rested Soriano and Mo waiting, may as well try to get more out of AJ.
Burnett has 3 wins
Boston has 2

GREAT win
time to send hughes to the minors, build up arm strength and develop a 3rd pitch, give colon his spot

Re: Birds at Yanks
Definitely the most exciting game of the young season so far, but they didn't make it easy on themselves.
After three starts, I'm getting worried about Hughes's arm strength as well. Guys are getting on him early he's struggling just to reach the 4th. It's becoming a surprise when his fastball breaks 91.
A-Rod and Cano seem to be in mid-season form. Hopefully the other guys will follow after a few more games. They were just no-hit by Arrieeta through 4.
I wonder if Colon could become a more reliable reliever down the stretch. As nice as how he kept the game close, he allowed a run and left 2 on base for Joba last night. I hope he could be a Alfredo Aceves type player who could pitch early relief and do spot starts.
Someone give Joba a base! SWEET tag on Pie there. It looks like he's got some of his velocity back. He was hitting 96 last night.
Mo is on fire...even if someone manages to get a hit on him, he gets out of a jam with a DP or a K.
Jorge...thank you. If you can't hit consistently, hit it out of the park when desperation sets in.
And of course, mentions to Swisher for the walk-off sac fly.

NYPost had Joba at 98; not sure if that's true.
Wonder if he'll ever touch 100 again or was that a hot radar gun fabrication?

Re: Birds at Yanks
The Hughes thing would be immensely worrisome if AJ wasn't pitching so well right now. Hopefully Hughes gets it together during this break, though I'd have preferred to see him go down and take care of it rather than straight up DL status.
Gotta add, Arod has been phenomenal. Russ is the steal of FA. I think Granderson will have a much better season too.
