Proky's State of the Union Address

Post#1 » by NyCeEvO » Fri Apr 15, 2011 7:29 am

Prokhorov is "satisfied" with Nets' progress and strongly backs Avery Johnson

BY Stefan Bondy

Mikhail Prokhorov broke into the league with a larger than life persona and big promises, including a goal of getting the Nets getting to the playoffs in his first season.

It didn't quite work out that way for New Jersey, which finished 24-58 and way out of the postseason chase. Nonetheless, Prokhorov was happy with what he saw from the Nets the first season, even if he failed to make the 10 home games he set as a goal before the season started (Prokhorov came up three short).

Here's his postseason State of the Union from Russia:

"Overall, I am satisfied with the team's progress and the work of the coaching staff. When they had a healthy roster, we caught a tantalizing glimpse of what the Nets can and will be next season under the leadership of Deron Williams and Brook Lopez. I have every confidence that Avery Johnson is the right man to be coaching the team. The Nets have won twice as many games this season compared to the last one. At that rate, in two years we'll have broken every record in the League! Most importantly, we have resolved strategic issues that will serve as the foundation for building a first-rate team as we get ready for the move to Brooklyn in 2012."

lol i love him... "at this rate in 2 years we'll have broken every record in the league!" Its true though... we got jason kidd and went from 30-52 to 50-32 in one season and went to the finals. hopefully deron williams can make a similar impact and this team, though it may not quite have the swag of that '01-'02 team, has a very similar talent level.

Proky's latest statement:
"Three years, maximum. If not, I will play myself."
-- Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov, asked in a Bloomberg News profile of him how long it would take the Nets to be in the Finals.

Proky wrote a letter to Cuban:
Dear Mark:

My heartiest congratulations on winning the NBA championship. You showed the world not only what a great team you have, but also, that you can remain silent for a period of weeks--I don't know which is more shocking! To you and all of the Mavericks, especially former Nets captain Jason Kidd, great job! It was a stunning Finals series, truly one for the history books.

Warm regards,

your friend and comrade,

Mikhail

Proky is a boss lol! Although, I do fear that Cuban can come back with an even snarkier remark talking about him winning a championship and us not even making the playoffs
