And am I the only one who finds it odd when people say Star Wars was set long time ago? I mean we don't even have space travel. (Yes, I'm getting into a serious discussion here)

Try catching the reboot movie. You might get into the franchise.

I think the whole thing about that is that in a different galaxy, they could be light-years ahead of us in terms of technology. What they are back then could be us in a thousand years. That's my guess as a non-Star Wars enthusiast.
