I heard a good point on the radio today, they were saying it's best to sign him, knowing he has value and with a reasonable contract he becomes valuable trade bait. Ak could easily fetch a first rounder, or possibly a too young to contribute prospect for a contender who needs to add length and isn't worried about the draft or devolping their young talent. With that said, if we can get ak to a good value contract he can either help us on the floor, or via trade, so I'm on board.

We're paying Raja Bell 3+ mil a season and some people here are fretting over 5 Mil for a guy who's capable of a 5x5 on any given night? AK blossomed once DWill left and I'm interested to see that continue. I'd be down for AK at 5mil any day.

That, I can agree with. AK certainly is the kind of vet you want in your team (so is Watson).
But still, all things considered, I still find 5M per a little bit too much.
Of course I won't be bitching if the Jazz do it, but the deal should be for 2 years plus a third on a ateam option.

Let him go than, we've overpaid him for years and he won't give us a decent discount? The money shouldn't matter as much as when he signed the max deal....I think he would consider a 5M offer, but I'm not sure his heart is in the NBA, I could see him go to Russia.

3/15 with NO no trade clause and I'm happy. He should be very tradeable at that figure if he isn't meshing with the new direction.

3 year 12 million is the best I'd do. I know he could get better than that somewhere else but I really think he wants to stay in utah.

I don't REALLY want him here, but i'd like him here. I REALLLY don't want to see him play for another team tho. AK and I's relationship is complicated ok, give me a break.

DWill passes to Korver for the winning shot.
Uh, Rose passes.
Brewer cheers.
Boozer contemplates his defence.
Game 1 is a win Chicagotown.
We worry about if we re-sign AK.
Whatever.

I just think it's time to cut bait with Andrei and wish him the best elsewhere. Huge talent, excellent servant but long past his prime, too often injured and so overpaid these last few years I don't think there's any value in his continuing union with the Jazz unless he repays the club a few million per season for the privilege to stick around. A couple of million to come off the bench for a couple of years is not happening. Not if he has any pride.

Yes, $4-5 million would be a very reasonable price for AK47. I do hope he retires in a Jazz uni.

I say 5M for 4 years with a PLAYER option on the third and a team option on the last year.

Big Al, Devin and Paul are all coming off the books in 2013. The player option on the third year coincides with that and will give AK a chance to think if he wants to chase a ring with another team or not.

IMO, this offseason will be exciting(?) to watch from a GM perspective, given the two-year window the Jazz's core group has.

When was the last time that happened?
For the record he did it twice in 2003 and a 3rd time in 2006. Granted he has done it 3 of the 6 times it happened since these statistical categories were recorded starting in 1992. But saying he is capable of it every night is a total stretch. Just keeping it real.

I'm sure there is a role for AK on this team. I just hope the price is conducive to helping the team rebuild.

I'll take a 4x3 from him these days.

His production is not what's in question, it's how many games he will play a year, which is always a huge question. What he does give us when he is playing is very valuable, and that can't be argued. I definitely think he's worth 5m a year.

If he will come back for $5m I say sign him. Sure, he wont be able to play every game, but I like the idea of starting Harris, Hayward, Kirilenko, Favors, & Jefferson next year. If we get a PG and a SF in the draft they can back up Harris and AK until they are ready to become starters.
