I wonder how much money one would've won for betting on a KO in the 1st in Ishida's favor.

I was a believer in Lemieux. That was a surprise to me. It's not that I didn't think he could lose, I just thought that he'd knock out pretty much whoever they put in front of him for at least another year before putting him in evenly-ish matched fights.

Nick Diaz wants to try boxing... and get in the ring with Sergio Martinez...

I saw MMA Live... they were laughing at his ass...

He is a world class striker... but a shot Mayorga would prolly kill him in a boxing ring.

Those are fighting words. But then Ortiz turned a bit goofy.

"When everybody runs from you at 140, you go up to 147, and I shot to the head of the line [to fight] Andre Berto," Ortiz, even though nobody ran from him because promoter Golden Boy never had any discussions with any top 140-pounders about facing him.

Rafael's Boxing Blog

Get the latest scoop and analysis on the world of boxing from ESPN.com's Dan Rafael in his blog.

Then came Ortiz's comical comments when asked about the Maidana fight, which he probably will be questioned about until he gives people a reason to forget it.

"He's running left and right, dodging me. He sees me in his nightmares," Ortiz said of Maidana in a statement that has no basis in reality. "When he gets the courage and comes out of the closet, he can meet me at 147. I had just one slipup against Maidana. That's the difference between then and now. If Maidana wants to end his career, he should move up to 147.

"You say I haven't fought a puncher. Maidana was considered the toughest puncher at 140 and 147, and he couldn't put me down."

Maidana, of course, did put him down. Twice. Made him quit.

Yet Ortiz has instead blamed the media for his problems in the fight, and his handlers have backed him up, perhaps realizing that they need to do whatever they can to instill confidence in him.

I hope Berto puts him out of his misery.

Khan is a badass....

He is ragging on Mcwhatever... saying he is European level and he is World class...

****... I always say that...lol.

It was a horrible stoppage but Khan was going to win via UD or late KO.

Daaamn...that round when both of them got KDs on each other is my candidate for Round of the Year. Huge upset. Ortiz got knocked down a couple times, but I don't mind saying his chin is somewhat now less of a question mark. You can't say Berto doesn't have power and Ortiz ate some BOMBS.

Where does Ortiz go from here? Should he fight Clottey? How about Berto? I was hoping he'd be the backup plan for Pacquiao if Mayweather backs out again. I don't mind seeing a rematch.

How great have the last two weeks been?

I didn't like the ref for tonight's fight though. During exchanges, Berto would go low and lean in, which is why Ortiz was landing a lot to the back of Berto's head.

And you have to love that crowd booing Mayweather and chanting "Fight Manny!".

What the hell is going on with Juanma Lopez?

I just caught the 7th. It sounds like this was as exciting. ANOTHER upset! Ref stops it! Salido wins!

I don't think I agree with that stoppage. Lopez was in trouble, but he was still landing. I'm still praying for Lopez-Gamboa like how Morales-Barrera was still made after Barrera lost to Junior Jones. I just hope it doesn't take a couple more years.

-Wow. Not only the past two weeks, but the past couple years of boxing have been great, really. I don't know when I'd say it began. But there've just been a lot of beautiful fights in recent memory.

It was ridiculous that people were claiming Ortiz had no fighting spirit. I'm not sure on the motivation, but he sort of got railroaded after that Maidana loss. Watch that fight again. He sat in the pocket and exchanged, his reaction to getting hit was to hit back harder. He is a fighter. I don't know what happened to make him quit, and he might not be Arturo Gatti, but he is far from a coward. One moment of weakness does not erase an otherwise hellacious fight. Re-watch those first 4 rounds.

-Gah. Such a disappointing end to the Khan fight. You need to see a decisive win in a fight against a guy like McCloskey (in the Hamed school). You want to see how he fares in later rounds when reflexes and speed start to wane. I would love to see a re-match, actually. I'm sure I'm in the minority. But, WTF, if you're playing wack-a-mole, you don't feel satisfied with the occasional strafing shot. You want contact, you want violence. Or, hey, maybe the defensive fighter wins - but he's got to be a given a chance to make a mockery of his opponent. To have a fight like that stopped without any climax to the drama of cat & mouse sucks. Ugh. Real bummer.

Also: die, Larry Merchant.

It was his interview afterward... the whole " I don't deserve to be treated like this" and etc is what people were railing about...

But what he said in the ring afterward was gibberish - it didn't make sense. "I'm a young fighter, I don't deserve to be treated like this". That's a non-sequitur. He'd just been in a brawling fight, I'm not going to hold a lack of cogency against him. He didn't know what he was saying.

I agree he's not a Gatti but he just didn't look hurt. I don't know if the story about his family life made me expect he would be hungrier.
