OT - How do you make yourself feel better after a loss?

Post#1 » by Leor_77 » Mon Apr 18, 2011 3:03 am

I think most of us are feeling pretty crummy after this loss, and I know most of us are very normal people, but are very die-hard fans of our team. I'm wondering what you guys do to get your mind off of it, and how you generally make yourself feel better.

Do you watch a movie? Work out? Hit a punching bag? I'd be curious to hear everyone's responses.

I call upon the name of King Leonidas...and Chris Quinn. I do remember punching a hole in the wall and then going out for a rather long drive after Game 2 of last year's Finals, however.

I usually go for a drive or play ball.

Most of the time I ignore and stay away from a lot of my friends and their texts/calls though so that I won't get overly annoyed because the majority are Laker haters and are known to talk some smack behind my back about me being a Laker fan and how I get upset at times at losses.

I wouldn't expect them to understand what it's like to be a die hard Laker fan since some are Clipper/Celtics/Heat/Lebron fans. Some don't even watch basketball period and hate the Lakers just because of Kobe and they root for anyone against the Lakers. **** is just annoying.

I joke around, saying that the Lakers should sign me to a 10 day contract. Someday it will happen, or someday I will be just to damn old to make that joke anymore.

To be honest, I really didn't get super worked up about many losses this year. The way I cope with losses is, simply not watching ESPN for a day or two. I play basketball, baseball, whatever. Then I wait for the next game. Before, I would rant my ass off about how Kobe is taking to many shots, or playing off his man while the team has to pick up his slack, or how Fisher can't play defense...list goes on. I didn't find myself ranting that much this year though.

Well I usually get a workout by smashing the tv I was watching the game on, then procede to make a big ass sandwich, eat said big ass sandwich, then wrap up the evening watching Eva Angelina vids. PRIME. FUEL. RECOVER.

Watching other playoff games certainly doesn't help, seeing all these other teams play hard for 48 minutes makes me even more mad.. and the Celtics won as well

I went out and did some gardening with my wife yesterday. Actually, I just kind of sat there and drank beer and occasionally handed her the water hose or gave advice on tomato root placement, but the point is I was being somewhat productive.

This is an interesting question though. Over the past two seasons I've found that I've gotten more and more infuriated with this team, which has made me question if I've become too much of a fan(atic). Next season I won't be getting NBA League Pass, and I'm going to make it a real point to become more of a casual fan and just catch nationally televised games. I may check out box scores the next day as well, but I'm not going to go out of my way to catch every game or get to caught up in Lakers affairs the way I do now. It's too draining, and I'm entirely too old to put this much energy into a professional sports team. I've been putting off other interests because I've followed this team so closely and that's going to change after this season is over and done with.

I got angry after last night L (litle bitt of screaming and leting the wall know how is the boss, it is him).
But when i calm down( it does not take along time) you understand that you are suporting a great team and most fans would die to have watcher there teams win so many rings or almost always be a contender.
You understand that your team has been to the finals the last 3 season and they know what it takes to win. They dont always show up but when they do they are the best.
I understand that we will win the series against the Hornets and mabey this L was good for the team
I was more relax after watching Kobe talking to the media, he was so relax and calm and that makes me feel better

We have seen it worse the last couple of years. 0-1 against Houston, 1-1 against Denver going to there home and they had a strong team, 2-3 down to Boston, 2-2 last season against Thunder and they scared me.

We will be alright. Will we win another ring? i dont know but i see us in the west finals and that is more then most team can do.

Read, listen to, watch nothing related to the Lakers until the following game.

i turned into a pretty casual fan last season. due to work i couldn't watch any weekday games, and i didn't have cable for the yr so no home games either. i would occasionally stream games but it wasn't the same. I even went as far as missing most of game 7 in the finals, getting home to catch the last 3 minutes. when the lakers won i was happy, but it didn't feel as good. on the flip side, i was a more happy person throughout the yr and did wonders for my relationship. now im back to being cranky when the lakers lose and i can tell its draining for those around me.

anywhoo, back on topic, i usually avoid espn and bbq a burger or something. being outside with a grill is very relaxing.

This loss actually didn't bother me that much. Pau sucking and Kobe choking bothered me, but not really the loss. I still think the Lakers will win this convincingly.

Actually, the Boston win pissed me off much more than us losing.

I cook. Feed yourself well and that takes away half the anxiety after a loss. The fact that the next 2 games turned out to be crackers also helped. Celts vs NY was a good watch and the Thunder vs Nuggets was amazing.

I cannot stay away from basketball at this time of the year. We play at the Y, watch the playoffs and talk basketball everywhere from the lobby to facebook. I wear my Lakers jersey/tee all through the day. My fandom has gotten serious since I moved to the US and got the LP. I make it a point to watch almost all games except for the odd ones on friday nights. The Lakers are like a family while living far away from home for me.

I don't have any serious relationship or someone I talk to everyday so the only strain after a loss is on me and the people on RealGM. This team has gotten m to the point that I'm a lot more relaxed even after a loss unless I see something very wrong or a long term detriment.

But yeah food, walks and long drives normally help alleviate the loss.
