Seems to me we had a similar type player with Thornton and he got waived.

If had to choose b/w A. Nick Young or B. Thad Young, I'd chose C. Neither.

Nice players indeed, but starters on a contending team? I'd say no.

Thaddous Young is 22 years old and the Wizards would be lucky to have him going foward. Lucky because he's the type of young player that will get better. I believe I created a homonyn!

Yeah, Young is 3 years younger than Young, though I really love them both.

See what happens when you add hominems to the discussion?

Btw, I agree with you. He's what - 22 years old?

Let's say we get the 1st pick and take Derrick Williams. There are no strong takers for Yao Ming and all it would take to pick him up is a 2 or 3 year deal for 7mil per season.

Is that just completely the wrong direction or is there some possibility that we'd have interest (or SHOULD have interest)?

I say no way they go for Yao. Wrong direction. This team is young and growing its own stars. They are not ready to bring in a player like Yao. Just not the right time yet. They will more likely go the direction of players like Mo Evan next year. By adding the picks and bring back guys like Mo, they will have a full roster. At least for one more year. They need to stay with the experienced college team feel for now. Stay mostly young. Leave room for players to grow. See what you have there first before making any big name moves.

Grunfeld on having cap space

"The worst thing you can do is spend all your money on a free agent who might not fit in so well just because you want to get a free agent on the roster. It has to be the right player. Ted's laid out the plan very clearly, and just because you have the cap room doesn't mean you have to spend it right away."

Yao Ming? I just puked all over my desk and my eyes just popped out of my head. You can't be serious?! I can't even humor myself to dignify that remark with a meaningful comment.

On other notes...did anyone watch the season ending presser with EG on WashWiz.com? The last reporter asked EG a series of questions about Yi before the video ended. She repeatedly asked EG about Yi's impact in expanding the international fan base. EG, the master of spin he is, skated around the questions but was pressured by the reporter since he didn't directly respond to Yi's impact on the international fan base. Finally EG retorted that he was going to fill the roster with the best players regardless of what fan base they impacted. That was the best part of the presser as EG essentially stated Yi's time in DC is over!

I didn't hate on Yi all year like some did. I actually think he will be a decent player in the right situation. Certainly a bench player. But this is not the right place for him. He needs to find a team that has a more established PF and Center combo that has more established power in the post. For a team like that who needs a tall player who has a decent stroke from 15 and who can fill in as a back up PF or C in spot duty, he would be good off the bench. Something like 1M for a year or two.

Not sure what team that is, but it isn't the Wizards.

I could see him being ok on a team like the Celtics as a 9th or 10th player.

Probably. Just wanted to get a feel for his worth and current risk/reward status.

One year. 3M. I wouldn't pay a dime more. But even at that, I wouldn't want him here next year.

jeffers is a real unsung hero around here. I can see a james singleton situation brewing if we let him go

I thought that going into this season. I think he would need to have 3 point range to fill that role. He really didn't show a whole lot of improvement this season.

Troy Murphy is a lot better in the same role. He is a 3 point shooter and he can rebound.

About the only player on that list I'd be willing to throw a little money at is Marc Gasol.

Depending on what happens in the draft... if we get Kanter then it's moot, but if we get Williams I'd love to make a run at Gasol.
