This feels like a draft of the D-League.

I have seen speculation that Memphis will contact teams with high draft picks and offer to swap OJ Mayo for a top pick and salary filler (if necessary).

Just wondering whether Toronto would be willing to swap its pick for OJ Mayo?

With DeRozan as the obvious starter, Barbosa being a legit 6th man and Mayo's contract coming up that deal would make no sense at all. Now if it were Steph Curry who can play PG then......

No one knows what Warrior brass is thinking. It's a new ownership. I personally think they want to keep Curry but will trade Ellis.

How effective could Mayo be at point guard playing beside DeMar?

I wouldn't mind evan turner being our pg. Not sure how the sixers value him.

No way should we exchange our pick for OJ Mayo. I can't think of a player in recent memory that is more overhyped than Mayo. Years of statistical evidence point to him being just a bit below average, and this season was his worst, but that won't stop people from grossly overestimating his talents.

He's also a shooting guard, and we have one of those.

Mayo tried to learn PG in Summer League last year, hoping to take the starting job in Memphis. It didn't work.

Probably more than we'd be willing to give up. I don't think they'd give him up for our pick (unless we move up, in which case we wouldn't do it)

My biggest concerns for the draft are
Kanter vs Val
and
Kemba vs Knight

We are destined for one of these 4 guys....

Derrick Williams had his final Arizona press conference today.

Here is a summary:
• Arizona has a very good team coming in next year "with or without me."

• Can't turn down the NBA if you are a top 5 pick. Nobody, but nobody believes that he is going to drop below the top 5.

• He is very relaxed and very calm with his decision. UA fans are happy for him. If you are a real fan and you know basketball then you understand that this is my job. Every last one of his teammates would have done the same thing given the opportunity.

• Promised his Mom that he would finish school so he will finish this semester strong and come back to finish his degree.

• Went over the pros and cons with Coach Miller. Pro staying would be the probability of being in the top 5 and the possibility of a National Championship. Cons included injury and dropping lower in the next draft. Everybody wants a National Championship but it is not guaranteed. If it was guaranteed "of course I would come back." Look at all the players who came back to get a NC and it never happened - cited several examples.

• He considered the lockout but at the end of the day being a top 5 is being a top 5 if you get started in your new profession now or a little later. There is going to be a season but will be delayed. If it goes into January he will probably be right here working out and taking more classes.

• Played 15 games with a broken finger on his shooting hand. If it had broken 1/2 inch lower he could have been out for the season. NBA scouts saw he could play through it.

• Would like to play "the 3" in the NBA.

• Has made no decision on an agent.

• Highlights at UA included: Pac-10 title, Jamelle's last season, Whiteout & running through the crowd.

• Mom doesn't want to move so will just fix up her house and get them both new cars.

• Sought advice from very few. Channing Frye. Luke Walton told him that college was the best years of his life but if he were a top 5 pick there was no reason to go back to school. Listened to Steve Kerr the most with his experience at UA, his long NBA career, and being a GM.

If you want someone else's unofficial take/perspective on the bigs we talk about, it's interesting to look at Givony's at DX. A little while back he tweeted he got his hands on a high quality video matchup of the Jonas V/Kanter matchup game. About a week after that announcement, he put Jonas V right up to number 2, while Kanter remained closer to 10. Then after Biyombo's big game he moved him from something like 17 to 7, one slot ahead of Kanter. So clearly he feels there's a pecking order there.

And the guy is pretty connected off the record, being able to talk to various scouts and even GMs/high ranked team officials on a regular basis.

I wonder who the first team was to get their hands on Biyombo's x-rays? Givony knows hehe.

Nice to know that Williams considers himself a SF. Kind of reaffirms things for me.

Thanks for posting this. Sounds like a smart kid, and it's nice to hear that he projects himself as a 3 (sort of a selfish thing on my part).

I don't think theres any point to hyping up williams any more on this board, its pretty much unanimous that we would pick irving 1st, the Williams 2nd, if we had the choice. However the board seems split on several players Kanter/Val/Biyombo/Knight and to a lesser extent Walker.

I think we should draft the BPA. There is no consensus #1 pick.

If Williams proves to be a better NBA prospect than Irving, I have no problem with the Raptors selecting him.

It's not like Irving is at the level of a Shaq or a LBJ (Franchise changing player). There are still some questions about what level of player he'll be in the NBA (might not be an allstar, let alone a superstar).

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Derrick Williams becomes the first allstar from this draft & the best player to come from it.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Williams went #1 overall.
