NBA 2k11 Predicted Game 1 Loss

Post#1 » by Desiderium » Wed Apr 20, 2011 1:13 am

thought this was interesting and kinda creepy at the same time. not sure if it was already posted or not

Mark Medina, our friend over at the LA Times Lakers blog, did a simulation of the Lakers and Hornets series prior to Game 1.
He published the story on Saturday, the video games simulation had the Lakers losing Sunday’s game one to the Hornets.
The simulation also had the Lakers losing 109-100, the exact score of game one.
Laker fans will find some relief, that in the simulation the Lakers win the next four games, finishing off the Hornets in five.

Lakers in 5. If it happens, I wonder what 2k11 picked as the champions.

Yeah 2K games are good at that I think the had the Mavs going to the finals back in the day. Anyone remember that?!LOL!

I ran a sim myself with the HEAT season. I wanted to see just how good they might be. In the SIM the HEAT stormed the regular season, getting the top seed in the east; only to loose the ECF to the Celtics in 7.

Honestly, these 'simulations' are pretty stupid IMO- well, stupid that they are published as 'news' (no offense to OP at all, just a general comment.) Running a CPU vs CPU game on your favorite video game is hardly what I'd call any sort of 'simulation'. It's based on a single game using preseason ratings of players based on last year's stats by video game developers (I'm sure some are very knowledgable but still...) on a video game that is a shadow of the real thing.

It's like using a random number generator on a PS3 to run a 'simulation' of the lottery.

Man I wasn't a believer on how real this ISH is on 2K. It wasn't until 2006. With the MAVS making the finals ( I think '06) I was blown away cos I didn't think they would make it. Every since then I run SIMS right when the game comes out every year just to see what teams come out on top, Its usually on point. But I have never been able to predict the champs successfully.
