Re: 2010-11 Toronto Raptors Trade Ideas Thread
I say we need two trades maybe three to step us in the right way and hopefully getting the #1 pick and #4 pick plus some free agency acquisitions.
Trade#1 Raptors Trade: Jose Calderon
Raptors Receive: Brendan Haywood, Dominique Jones
Trade#2 Raptors Trade: Andrea Bargnani, Linas Kleiza, Future 2013 pick(Top 6 protected) or 2014 Top 2 Protected
Raptors Recieve: Reshard Lewis, #4 pick
Trade#3 Raptors Trade: Leandro Barbosa, Solomn Alabi
Raptors Receive: S&traded to us Sasha Vujacic, Johan Petro, NJ 2012 1st
Explaining these trades:
Trade#1 Helps us get a defensive hard body center and a young player while getting rid of Calderon as we draft Irving. It helps Dallas as Kidd is the only point guard on contract for next year and they can sign back Tyson Chandler.
Trade#2 Washington really doesn't need their pick really and we give them Bargnani to pair up with McGee and help them save money off of Lewis's contract so they can sign people. It helps us as we are trying to rebuild also but don't have as much established as them and we can draft Bismack Biyombo or Enes Kanter.
Trade#3 We help NJ free up cap space so they can resign Deron Williams and try and make a trade for Howard or someone else. It helps us get a 3 point shooter in Vujacic and a draft pick in a really deep draft supposedly.
The team looks something like this:
Kyrie Irving/ Jerryd Bayless/
Demar DeRozan/ Sasha Vujacic/
Reshard Lewis/ James Johnson/
Ed Davis/ Amir Johnson/ Joey Dorsey
Bismack Biyombo/ Brendan Haywood/ Joel Pryzbilla
Trade#1 Raptors Trade: Jose Calderon

Raptors list of rookies should be PJ3, Lillard, Rivers, Waiters, or Harkless.
I say draft Lillard, Waiters, or Harkless.

kind of like mine but a bit different.
I refined my original deals to simplify them and make them better for MIL
1st deal: Draft Day
To TOR: Lewis + #4
To MIL: Bargnani + Barbosa
To WAS: Maggette + Dooling + Sanders + #10
WAS saves 7 million instantly in this deal (39 million next year after this deal compared to 46), giving them cap space. move down to get a SF in the draft (Kawhi Leonard, Terrence Jones (MAYBE, doubt it), Jordan Hamilton, Jan Vesley), get a young PF in Sanders to backup Blatche. Even if they waive Lewis the year after they dont take extra money. Get a backup PG for Wall.
MIL gets scoring which is what they need. I break it down as Maggette + Sanders + #10 = Bargnani and Barbosa for Dooling is in their favor so its pretty even IMO.
TOR would hopefully use this to get Kanter (im praying heres there at #4 and we get Irving #1 but if not id take a project like Val, if we dont luck into Irving with our pick, we pick Kanter with our pick and pick a PG at #4)
2nd Deal:
To TOR: Brendan Haywood + Luke Walton
To LAL: Jose Calderon + Linas Klezia
To DAL: Steve Blake + Matt Barnes
Toronto Raptors Roster:
- Re-sign Sonny Weems
- Re-sign Joey Dorsey
- Sign 3rd string PG (Ronnie Price?)
Kyrie Irving / Jerryd Bayless / Ronnie Price
Demar Derozan / Sonny Weems
Reshard Lewis / James Johnson / Luke Walton
Ed Davis / Amir Johnson / Joey Dorsey
Brendan Haywood / Enes Kanter / Solomon Alabi
or (more realistic)
Kemba Walker (#4) / Jerryd Bayless / PG
Demar Derozan / Sonny Weems
Reshard Lewis / James Johnson / Luke Walton
Ed Davis / Amir Johnson / Joey Dorsey
Brendan Haywood / Enes Kanter (#3) / Solomon Alabi
basically if we luck into Irving then we take him and just take a project C at #4, even if Kanter isnt there just take Val and look to develop him overtime. Kanter would be my 1st option though.

Two assumptions for a worst case scenario
1. Raptors get 5th or 6th pick
2. Michael Jordan really wants Kemba Walker Link
Raptors draft Kemba Walker
Trade Walker + Bargs (9.2) + Calderon (9.7) + Kleiza (4.6)
CHA 2011 1st + Tyrus Thomas (7.3) + Boris Diaw (9.0) + DJ Augustin (3.2)
Brown/Diop
Bargs/Kleiza/White
Jackson/Kleiza/Najera
Henderson/Carroll
Walker/Calderon/Livingston
If Charlotte doesn't want to take on that much salary, we can take back Diop or Carroll
Raptors draft Bismack Biyombo
Sign and trade DeAndre Jordan (10 mil/y for 4y) for Tyrus Thomas and Alabi
Kaman/Thomas/Alabi
Griffin/Thomas/Smith/Diogu/Cook
Aminu/Gomes
Gordon/Foye/Warren
Bledsoe/Williams/Price
Jordan/Biyombo
Ed/Amir/Dorsey
JJ/Diaw

Re: 2010-11 Toronto Raptors Trade Ideas Thread
What about...
To TOR: Boris Diaw, CHAR 2012 1st
To ATL: Tyrus Thomas, Linas Kleiza
To CHAR: Marvin Williams, Andrea Bargnani, Reggie Evans (resigned)
Toronto: Gets a unfit, albeit versatile veteran who can do a lot on the court. More importantly, expires in 2012. Also, a likely lottery bound 2012 draft pick. Gives up Bargnani and Kleiza in the process.
Atlanta: Atlanta get a big which they desperately need who is a good role player. Also getsa 3-point shooter in Kleiza who can provide instant offense off the bench like Williams but is on a cheaper contract. Give up Williams (better defender than Kleiza) in the process.
Charlotte: Gets a big that can score from anywhere really. Very gifted score and decent man-on-man defender. Gets a role player in Williams that can provide some offense from time to time but is a good defender and decent rebounder at SF. A good hustle player. This is a pretty good deal for them because while they do take on long term salary, the truth is that Charlotte is a far less
desirable destination than T.O so they get blocks that are there long term. It costs them a pick and an expiring.
Thoughts?

If the 2012 draft is super stacked, and Charlotte is projected to be in the lottery next year, no way they trade that pick for Bargnani IMO.

I think there's a chance.
For starters, I think it's likely that they'll be in the lottery BUT no one really knows. They had very little talent this year and ended up in the late lottery (#9). So with Bargnani, Evans and Williams, I think a guy like Jordan would gamble. With a team like that I see them either getting the 8th seed or a 11-14 pick. Again, its hard to project but that's what I think. Also, Jordan is a gambling man and almost gave us Chandler for Jose. I think BC can definitely pull this off.

Jordan is the GOAT, I think he knows what it takes from big men to have a good team. I don't think Jordan is looking for an inefficient volume big who doesn't rebound or defend. Also not like they have Tyson Chandler anymore, they'll need to find a legit center to pair him with.

I like this trade...you can even fill in Knight or Kemba at point guard if we don't get Irving.
As for Jordan...give him more time before judging his competence as a GM.

Getting Al Jefferson and Bell for Bargnani and Calderon is a dream come true! Even better would be swopping picks and taking CJ Miles instead then drafting Brandon Knight. At that point I'd argue we are well on our way to rebuilding
PG Brandon Knight - Bayless
2G Demar Derozen - CJ Miles
SF SIGN Thaddeus Young - James Johnson
PF Ed Davis - Amir Johnson
C Al Jefferson - Sign Sam Dalembert

Not a big fan of Anderson. Don't get me wrong that he would be the ideal back-up big man - if he wasn't getting paid so much. He can rebound and play some energetic defence for about 25 minutes a game. But his offence is just terrible. That last season he scored a bit more (9ppg) but I get the feeling that it was a product of being Lebron's teammate. And he'd have to come back from that season ending injury. Though I'd probably trade Amir straight up for Varajao. That would be a decent trade for us.
Biyombo is way too raw (too much risk) and he's only 6'9. We already got Davis and Amir. And why would the Cav's want Bayless? Unless he's just filler, cause they already have Baron and Sessions. And if they get the top pick, their gonna draft Irving.
sweetcity wrote:Getting Al Jefferson and Bell for Bargnani and Calderon is a dream come true! Even better would be swopping picks and taking CJ Miles instead then drafting Brandon Knight. At that point I'd argue we are well on our way to rebuilding

Jefferson reminds me of a younger Zach Randolph - someone who's a great offensive post presence AND can rebound. But just like the younger Zach Randolph, he can't play for the team (i.e. hangs onto the ball too long, can't pass, and can't play defence).

Sure I would do that Haywood deal. The final year is not guaranteed or a team option and he can be moved the year before as an expiring. So, that makes it 3 years in Toronto at 9 mil max on the final year. Price you have to pay for a decent big man in this league, especially when your PF is so soft.
Haywood is not a decent big man anymore. Even at his salary, he lost his starting job first to Chandler and then lost the back-up spot to Ian Mahinimi. I'd rather trade for Kaman or sign someone like Javale McGee, Deandre Jordan, or Nene. Hell, I'd rather take a one year flier on Yao than trade for Haywood.

I think he would. It's not a bad package. In essence he would give up a potential lottery pick, an expiring and Tyrus Thomas (who is an Amir Johnson kind of guy) for Williams, Bargnani and Evans. Evan after these moves, he still has space. If he made a play for Mayo (for example), that could be a really good team. I don't know what Memphis' asking price would be but they were about to move him for a mid-first round pick. Maybe Cunningham and the 2011 lottery pick?
He's just be looking for a big. He'd still have Henderson and Jackson that he could flip into a big or try in free agency. Maybe Dalembert? He'd still have Diop and Mohommed I think. An example would be:
Augustin/Mayo/Williams/Bargnani/Dalembert
Not bad for the Bobcats... Damn! I just realized the Bobcats don't own their 2012 pick

Re: 2010-11 Toronto Raptors Trade Ideas Thread
FIRST QUESTION! Bargs for Lewis + 2011 1st? If we somehow acquired the Washington Wizards pick in the 2011 draft but had to take on Rashard Lewis to do so without breaking up our young core; do you take the deal? I know I do. Just keep Shard since he expires in 2012-13 and is only guaranteed 10 million in his final year.
This is iffy. Washington needs to add young talent just as bad as us, they might laugh in our faces if we offered this whether or not they need to get rid of Shard's deal. If this doesn't work, the plan falls apart
SECOND QUESTION! Who are the two players you take at 3 & 4 (assuming the lottery plays out how things stand today)? I personally go for Kanter at 3 assuming Irving and Williams are taken 1 & 2. Then use the 4th pick to draft Brandon Knight.
THEN TRADE! Kleiza & Barbosa for Pachulia & Hinrich
We get back a tough guy who need a change of scenery in Pachulia, plus some veteran leadership in Hinrich who has a lot to teach, plus a pretty nice expiring at the end of next year (just like Barbosa).
AND! Calderon for Luke Walton & Derek Fisher (perfect mentor to Knight and will likely opt out in 2012-13)
Hear me out. Luke Walton is useless, I know. But his contract is smaller than Jose's and more movable. You add DFish who might be pissed but is the consummate pro. He'll get the necessary health care for his daughter while providing Brandon and Jerryd with wads of knowledge. The perfect vet. It's an addition by subtraction deal.
SO IF POSSIBLE! I go into the season with a line-up like this:
LINE-UP!
Bayless/Knight/Fisher
DeRozan/Hinrich
Lewis/J. Johnson/Walton
Davis/A. Johnson
Kanter/Pachulia/Dorsey/Alabi
You let Bayless and Knight fight it out for the point guard duties while Fisher mentors both of them. You also ensure your Centre position is no longer marshmallowy. In fact, it becomes extremely tough and young. You also add an expiring vet in Hinrich who can teach DeMar and the point guards lots of things, including how to play good man defense
. It's not an overhaul but it sets us up for the future as well. We still have our money this off season and next, plus $33, 290, 000 (Lewis, Walton & Fisher) coming off the books in 2012-13!
This is iffy. Washington needs to add young talent just as bad as us, they might laugh in our faces if we offered this whether or not they need to get rid of Shard's deal. If this doesn't work, the plan falls apart

This is iffy. Washington needs to add young talent just as bad as us, they might laugh in our faces if we offered this whether or not they need to get rid of Shard's deal. If this doesn't work, the plan falls apart![]()
You also add an expiring vet in Hinrich who can teach DeMar and the point guards lots of things, including how to play good man defense. It's not an overhaul but it sets us up for the future as well. We still have our money this off season and next, plus $33, 290, 000 (Lewis, Walton & Fisher) coming off the books in 2012-13!
1. Bargnani for Lewis + #4.
i suggest a:
To TOR: #4 + Lewis
To MIL: Bargnani + Barbosa
To WAS: #10 + Dooling + Maggette + Sanders
deal where Washington moves down because at #4 theres mostly PGs that are the BPA or Jonas but with Mcgee there i dont know how much sense that makes, they need a SF. They move down to get one. MIL gets Bargnani and Barbosa
Jennings / PG / Boykins
Salmons / Barbosa
Delfino / Moute
Bargnani / Irsan
Bogut / Gooden
solid team, goes for the playoffs next year.
Wall / Dooling
Young / Crawford
#10 (jones or Leonard) / Maggette
Blatche / Sanders
Mcgee / Seraphin
+ an extra 7 million in cap space (they get a TE of 7 million in the deal)
So for your question the above deal is what i do. Hes only 10 million guaranteed so that him and Bargnani are about even when waived. I also like his ability to shoot the 3 well, it spaces the floor for Derozan.
2. At #3/#4 i would take Kanter #3 and then Knight #4. Assuming of course we dont luck into Irving with our own pick which would be ideal but realistically i do the above. Just as you said thats what i do also. I like Kemba but i think Knight has more potential.
my next trade would be to ship Calderon out for a backup C/starter whos young (example Biedrins)
To TOR: Biedrins + Walton + Bell (through TE)
To LAL: Calderon
To GSW: Klezia + Blake + LAL incentive (future 1st?)
LAL upgrades PG + saves money
GSW saves 4.8 instantly to get a more defensive C and get depth while picking up assets. Blake/Klezia expire the same time as Biedrins.
all in all i agree with most of what you said but my depth chart looks sort of different
- Re-sign Sonny Weems (2 million) best friends with Derozan can play backup SG effectively as we saw last year and is still young, i wouldnt want to break up those friends.
- Re-sign Joey Dorsey i like his rebounding and he doesnt need a ton of minutes (1.2 million?)
So i go into next season with.
Brandon Knight / Jerryd Bayless / Charlie Bell
Demar Derozan / Sonny Weems
Reshard Lewis / James Johnson / Luke Walton
Ed Davis / Amir Johnson / Joey Dorsey
Enes Kanter / Andres Biedrins / Solomon Alabi
Bayless becomes the 6th man which i believe is his role in the NBA. All he does off the bench is look to score. He has the freedom to do what he wants as the 6th man and doesnt have to deviate to Bargnani.
Team plays defense, has a more traditional lineup and is young. What i like best about this is.
Waive Lewis the year after (2012) draft Barnes/Gilchrist/Miller
Brandon Knight / Jerryd Bayless
Demar Derozan / Sonny Weems
Harrison Barnes / James Johnson / Luke Walton
Ed Davis / Amir Johnson / Joey Dorsey
Enes Kanter / Andres Biedrins / Solomon Alabi
team is nasty. I think all those trades are fair too.

2 expiring vets that help now. A young big to add to the Scottie timeline
I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks
