Jazz #2 in the league for TV ratings

Post#1 » by Fido » Thu Apr 21, 2011 8:25 pm

This was mentioned elsewhere but thought it might warrant its own topic:

According to Sports Business Weekly, the Jazz were 2nd in the league trailing only the Spurs.

Team RSN Avg. rating
San Antonio FS Southwest 10.01
Utah FS Utah 6
Miami Sun Sports 5.4
L.A. Lakers FS West 4.9
Boston CSN New England 4.81

Look at the others rounding out the top 5:
Spurs
Heat
Lakers
Celtics
Sponsors have got to love that number--and that puts the team in good company. 8-)

I'm sure Siegfried and Jenson love it, but in the end that 4.9 the Lakers have represents 100% viewing in the Wasatch Front and San Antonio combined.

Yes--that link has viewership numbers as well and the Jazz don't sniff anywhere near the top. Lakers kill it:

Team RSN Avg. no. of HHs
L.A. Lakers FS West 278,000
Chicago CSN Chicago 141,000
Boston CSN New England 118,000
New York MSG 115,000
Miami Sun Sports 85,000
San Antonio FS Southwest 85,000

I guess it is also interesting to note the teams with below 20,000 HHs for viewership:
The league's smallest local TV audiences have been in Charlotte, where Bobcats games have been viewed by an average of 11,000 homes. Milwaukee (16,000 on FS Wisconsin), Memphis (17,000 on SportSouth) and Oklahoma City (19,000 on FS Oklahoma) also have audiences below 20,000.

10.1 for SAS is an incredible number. Wow.

OKC fans suck apparently. Imagine our viewership if we had a Kevin Durrant... or Westbrook, or Harden, or Ibaka.

If Stern sees this he may make the ping pong balls fall in our favour!

I'm really surprised OKC is so low...

I love how Miami is still ranked low considering who they have on their team :)

It would be interesting to know what the ratings were when the games were televised on KJZZ. My guess is that they were close to San Antonio or aproximately 50% higher. Not to mention, there has has likely been a drop due to the decline in the caliber of play. So maybe at one point the Jazz were #1 in the NBA when using this index.

It just shows how Jazz fans are cheap and dont pay to come see the games either. Theyed rather watch it at home.

LMAO, way to be ignorant!

Jazz were 7th in average attendance this year, even as rough as the year was. They are also one of not very many teams in the league who average over 10,000 season ticket holders.

Return to Utah Jazz
