Post#1 » by WpgPage » Thu Apr 21, 2011 7:08 pm

In todays Boneheaded move the Brewers have Extended RaunBraun through the 2020 season

The 8 year 45 mil deal was a solid move this one is just stupid.

It's a risk considering the way I think he'll age. He's not a big OBP guy and he's a terrible OF so he could decline quickly after his prime and could have to play 1B. I understand that they're a small market team and they need to invest in keeping their stars, but there was no reason to add 5 more years when he's already locked up to a nice and neatly timed contract. That said, if he does age well, it still averages out to 11.5m/yr and they can always dump him to a richer team if the 21m is too much.

Even Vernon and Rick Dipietro are lol'ing at this.

How much of a pussy organization do you have to be to do this deal? We're so scared of you leaving in 2016 that we'll give you 100 mil for your 33-38 years ahead of time. I mean holy ****, lol. Baseball contracts are broken. Lockout coming ASAP.

And way to take all and any incentive for Braun to work the rest of his career. I mean I don't think Braun is the type to Dice K it, but still. When you have big paycheques until 2020 guaranteed, there has to be something in the back of his mind saying "I think I will eat that sundae!"

There is no chance of a lockout in the MLB the new cba is all but done already. No idea why the figured they need to do this now he was under control until 2016 why not wait a few seasons and see what your team/ prospects look like at the end of 2013/14 before making this commitment. Fielder is gone for sure now with this move, and with the Brewers sending Matt Gamel to AAA to learn 1B.

Okay... while there's a good chance that if he hit the 2016 FA class while maintaining his numbers he'll end up with something bigger, especially if you factor in inflation, but what are the chances he's even half the player he is by 2015 let alone 2020? They best they'll do with this deal is break even or get slightly more in return and the downside is losing major payroll flexibility for 5 years. Their drafting better be fantastic over the next 5-8 years.
