Would you do these trades for OJ Mayo?

Post#1 » by Ugly0598 » Sun Apr 24, 2011 12:11 am

I realize that OJ Mayo has been greatly overhyped by a lot of people, however he could be a great asset to this Jazz team IMO.

Here's some trades I think we could do for him, I would LOVE to see OJ Mayo on the team.

Raja Bell + 12th Pick = Mayo
Raja Bell + Okur (Yes it's a 9 million dollar contract, but an expirer), 2nd Round Pick = Mayo

Okur could be a great asset to get him. What is your opinion on him though, would you rather spend that 12th pick on someone else like a PG or Biyombo, or get OJ?

I think I'd like either of those trades. I might rather move up in the draft, but these both look reasonable to me. I wish I knew more about OJ Mayo's performance lately, though.

I would for sure do the Raja and Memo deal.

Not so sure about Raja and 12th deal....I always hate trading away draft picks but I love OJ Mayo. I wanted the Jazz to make a play for him at the deadline (before the traded Deron).

Would love to see him end up here either way though. Great all around player.

I guess it all depends on whether or not we are going to be going into total rebuild mode. Meaning we won't be making any big trades this offseason and will focus on developing our rookies and sophomores next year.

We could make some trades this offseason to become a 7 or 8 seed, but I wonder if any of that would be at the expense of getting ourselves into position to be a champ contender in several years when Favors and Hayward have had more time to develop. Seems like players make their biggest leaps between their 2nd and 3rd seasons, with another big one between 3rd and 4th.

My concern is that we trade for a player to help us next year that only adds 5 wins and then that players contract is up soon and he doesn't want to stay here. I think we should make that big impact trade when Favors and Hayward are ready.

If the Jazz do hang onto all of their picks this year and next and next year we don't make the playoffs again, we could have 4 lottery picks this year and next combined to go along with Favors, Hayward, and Evans which is too much youth at once. So yeah, I guess looking at it, we will have to deal a pick at some point, but I just hope it is for a player that will be around long term or the right move that isn't at the expense of our future.

As disappointing as he's been relative to his hype coming in, I don't see Memphis doing either of those trades. I'd do it from our perspective, though.

This.

Put some serious work into the development of these two boys and in 2/3 years time (hopefully) we should be able to attract a big name that can see the potential in this side. Add the next two season draft picks and you never know what could occur. We already have the old heads there now to lead the way.

Filing up with players now would only stunt the long term potential of this team IMO.

Memphis was thinking of trading him for a scrub in Josh McRoberts and the Pacers 1st round pick for him. Trading away Raja and the 12th pick might make Memphis into thinking of biting too.

Mayo has been on the trading block for Memphis for a while, his likelihood of getting traded now is a little bit less because I think Memphis has to appreciate his work a little bit more after Rudy Gay's injury, but regardless.

There is no way they do this for freaking Raja Bell and a 12th pick in the weakest draft of NBA history...

They might do it for Miles+incentives, though. Or we could ship CJ to New Jersey for that LAL 1st (seeing as NJ wants to keep Deron and be a bit more competitive).

Like I said, Memphis was going to do it for the 16th pick and Josh McRoberts (McRoberts is not that good either). 12th Pick and Bell is about the same trade. Soooo yeah.

I would seriously consider making a move for him at the draft. I love the idea of a Hayward, Favors, Mayo, Nets lottery pick, Gsw lottery pick and possibly another of our own lottery picks next year. That's an amazing way to start your rebuilding process....

While OJ Mayo has been a fairly big disappointment I feel like if he was put into the right situation he could explode. He is a great overall player and I've always been impressed with his defense, I think he is one of the most under-rated guards on defense (but in all honesty I've only watched him a few times so I could be off with that statement). It makes me wonder if we traded for him if he would have an awakening like Favors did when he got here and finally felt like he had a home.

That's a deal I would lose sleep over if I was KOC haha. Tough call.
