Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 7
I think Bebe can go somewhere in the 15-25 range... you won't have to pay him until he comes over, which may be a plus for some teams that aren't all that interested with the talent available in this draft heading into the new CBA. Very athletic kid with elite length and solid defensive potential, but he's going to need to gain some weight before he can contribute in the league (he currently weighs 218lbs). Was a bit of a non-factor at the Hoop Summit, but definitely worth buying a late pick for and letting him continue to develop before bringing him over (sadly I'm more or less convinced that would never happen given the situation with BC's uncertain future and the penny pinchers at MLSE). The investment in him could really pay off in a few years the way it did for the Bulls with Asik, I could see one of those contending teams like the Spurs wisely scooping him up to be part of their future in a few years (a frontcourt of Splitter/Nogueira could be pretty good in the future once Duncan moves on).

Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 7
Lucas Nogueira was the guy I first confused Biymobo with so Biyombo really came out of left field for me. Lucas does have a game similar to Sammy D and is legitimitely young. Too young... He won't make a difference for 3-4 yrs - think Bynum for maturation time without his game of course.
He can add some muscle too. Funny thing is he may be a better prospect that Biyombo. Limited offensive game. Not sure of his wing span though. I think he will do well at the combines and move up like Beaubois did - someone else I was high on.
I would get a cheap late first round pick for him if we don't get a Jonas V. Also, remember the league he plays for is not top-level but he does have the tools to be a Sammy D.

Lucas has a 7'5.5" wingspan, 9'3" standing reach. I don't think he's a better prospect than Biyombo at all. At the same age, Biyombo weighs 25lbs more than Lucas at 243lbs vs 218lbs (and has a 4.5% body fat vs. Lucas' 7.8%), and despite being a project himself is more polished than Lucas on both ends, and is every bit as quick and athletic.

This is, of course, assuming that Biyombo is eighteen.
I really hope there's conclusive evidence that he is, because I would not feel comfortable having a prospect on my favourite team with a relatively unknown birthday.

Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 7
He doesn't have the motor to be better than Biyombo. He has the tools though. 7 feet tall and that's an impressive wingspan. Plus he runs the court very well and he plays like Sammy D. and Camby or even Noah.
Lucas also can be the next POB and that would be the reason to avoid him however he does have the physical tools to better than Biyombo. If he adds 20 - 30 lbs, grow another inch or so and get a better motor - that's an impressive package. Biyombo is less of a risk. I would draft Lucas and get him into the ACB for a couple of years.

Honestly, the whole age discussion about Biyombo is ridiculous. This was from one report from ESPN after an unnamed GM speculated that he may be older than listed. Wouldn't it be all too perfect that this GM wants Biyombo to fall to him based on this idle speculation. The fact that the agent went to such an extent to get a bone scan to determine his age shows you how outrageous this all is.

well, according to DX the x-rays with Biyombo's growth plates (from when he was 16) are already being evaluated by an NBA team. If those turn out to be valid, then he was no older than 16-17 in the summer of 2009, meaning that he is 18-19 now.
Obviously I would hope that the team does their homework to make sure, but I don't think it's fair to use this age argument when there doesn't appear to be a basis for these rumours in the first place. It's almost like this is something they put out there anytime there's an overseas prospect that looks mature or physically developed for their age (the same issues were brought up for Kanter, who was also physically mature for his age, but it turns out he was born in Zurich). I understand the need to verify their age, but it is kind of sad that they only come under this kind of suspicion simply because of where they are from. I wonder if scouts scrutinized Oden's age the same way.

Biymobo as a top 3 pick makes me nervous. But, David Thorpe said this about Biyombo and said that the T Wolves might end up drafting him first over all too

I think this is pure speculation, I highly doubt he goes #1.

Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 7
Yeah hes pretty biased. But I posted it because of the opinion about his skills. Guy has legit skills but a top 3 pick after being ranked as an undrafted prospect in a month? I dont know about that. We should technically have an advantage with Maurizio around but we ll see.
It was just a scenario he threw out there. I dont think Biyombo goes first overall. Minnesota probably picks Derrick Williams. This was who he had us drafting.

I think because there tends to be a history from some nations, either faking documents or just having poor records. Remember, there's millions of dollars at stake, so it's to a player's benefit to make someone else prove it.
Here's a DX tweet about Ibaka, also from the Congo.
DraftExpress: Yes, but no more than a year or two. Don't think he knows his actual age either. RT @andrewmohr: Think Ibaka is older than his stated age?
As for Kanter, I think Ilyasova faked his age, or was under the same suspicion. I'm also not sure how big the Kanter speculation was, as he was born in Zurich.
The David Aldridge rumour was kind of ridiculous. That was just a GM trying to kill Biyombo's stock. I know I made a joke about it myself, but it's doubtful he's that old.

Funny how Motiejunas isn't even in the title. Lithuanians must think much higher of Valanciunas... or is it simply because he's still playing in Lithuania ?
edit: Looks like Motiejunas declared earlier and there was a separate article for it, so nvm that lol

I LOL when that mediocrity dude says that. Everyone who watches Irving knows he has the "it" factor and he's pretty much a guaranteed first pick by any espn scouts any pro scouts any gms, it's funny there's still someone on this board questions his ability and questions the "11" games he played. Didn't he know Irving was on scoring spree in the tourney? Funny. Just funny.
The only reason I have reservations about Irving is because I have not seen him play. You obviously have seen him play, as your posts are frequented with references to him, so describe to me this abstract ideal you like to describe as "it". How can you measure it?
How can you state that you don't see the hype about him if you haven't seen him play?
