Actually, it seemed to me from looking at Jimmer's stats that he may have peaked during his Junior year:
He shot a higher 3-pt. percentage, as well as overall FG%; he had more assists and fewer turnovers. He played 4 minutes more per game as a senior and took about 6 more shots and score almost 7 points per game more (about what you'd expect given his shooting percentage). His FT attempts barely went up at all (which isn't good considering his increased usage rate).
I think you could spin this into a point in his favor: that when he wasn't asked to be The Man and take 20 shots a game, he actually did better.
But I don't think you can say he showed "drastic statistical improvement from year to year."
This is true, but he also had more talent to pass to. He was taking deeper 3s, thus the worse 3 point numbers. Gordon is showing that worse SR season 3 pt% doesn't tell the whole story and doesn't mean he can't nail them in the NBA. The FT numbers are a bit concerning, but he also took nearly twice as many 3 point shots. He took 136 more 2 point shots this year and shot only 31 more FTs.
What I think is more important to take from this is not necessarily his better stats, but how much better the team was with worse help. They had much more success, and he constantly had the ball in his hands. He didn't have the ball in his hands as much his JR year. They were a FT away from getting to the elite 8, and he scored 30+ points in all his tournament games. He turned it on when it mattered like the SDSU game and post-season play, but ran out of gas in overtime and looked terrible in the FLA game. The good news is that he would not be playing the whole game, but would be a bench boost.
