I went onto the Trades and Transactions Board to see what kind of compensation people think Howard would get. Some of these people are pretty funny.
Yes, the Clippers may have the most available assets to trade. But a pairing of Dwight and Blake does not equal championship. Yes, it is a formidable front line but you need someone to pass to them and you need good three point shooters to spread the floor.
These Clipper fans are thinking the same way Heat fans thought when LBJ first announced where he was going. Individual Stats of Wade on Heat + Stats of LBJ on Cavs = Combined stats of new Heat duo. Wrong wrong wrong...those two guys had their own individual situations and dominated the basketball on their own respective teams. The same thing would happen with Dwight and Blake. Although since neither is a stretch 4/5, they can't even do a two man game (pick-and-roll, pick-and-pop, etc.). You'd basically design post plays for Howard where Blake isn't utilized and vice versa, which isolates them and takes away their combined overall effectiveness and threat from the field. I'm not saying they would be bad together, but combining like players on a team will reduce the overall effectiveness of each player could have on any given play. Therefore, they will not be able to perform the same way or put up the same stats that they were able to when they were separate. This is why PG-C combinations are great because they're two completely different players. In fact, great guard-big man combos exacerbate the effectiveness of each player because you have to watch out for what both players do well. A pick and roll between Dwight and D-Will is one of the most deadly combos in the entire league. No play that you can draw for both Howard and Blake could be as effective as that.
Also, have Clipper fans forgot who their owner is? Mr. Donald "Racist" Sterling! No one wants to play for him. Blake Griffin has already been watching the owner and is reportedly not happy with his past and present actions. Your rookie phenom already looking to bolt LOL? And you really think Howard wants to go to the Clips...
I saw a couple of guys from the board (e.g. VC, CrazyKidd, NJD) try to explain to these people, but they don't seem to understand that whenever you trade for a superstar you never get equal value. Plus, with Howard having a year left on his contract, he has the same situation as Melo except he doesn't seem to really care about getting his extension done pre-new CBA.
