Joe is scheduled to make 18Mil next year, my question is if a team has 2 MPE ( I think 5.2mil each)
can make a trade like Joe Joshnson for a 10 mil expiring Plus 2 MPE ? I love Joe, but the more I watch him that 127 mil contract is going to kill us long term and WE CAN NOT GET BETTER. When you project the furture power teams in the east. Boston is getting old, Orlando is bad and will lose D Howard, onle Miami & Da Bull look to be good in the future, thus we should be looking 1 to 3 years out.

Re: Joe Johnson's Cap Question
Cap exceptions can't really be traded. Even the language around what is commonly called the TPE is read as "non-simultaneous" trades in the CBA. All you can use the MLE and the BAE on is to sign a FA - nothing else. Also, Exceptions cannot be combined for 1 player.

There is also talk that the owners want to eliminate or reduce the MLE
So many have made horrible signings that they want to protect themselves from themselves.
I personally think it will be kept but at a reduced rate. If they eliminate it, how are Heat, Magic and Lakers going to get new players?
The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials.

Re: Joe Johnson's Cap Question
I've always figured that the owners' big push would be for the reduction of the length of contracts. It's not that owners fear making a mistake - in the business world, it's generally better to make a decision that ends up being wrong than it is to not make a decision at all. The real push from the owner's side is that they don't want teams like NYK and PHI ending up well over the cap well in the future and are barely good enough to compete for a playoff position. Watching NYK deal 1sts like candy to get to the point where they were under the cap enough to sign Amare and make a run @ another FA must have made Stern start taking Rolaids like candy. Shorten the MLE from 5-6 years to 3-4 and then the sale of contracts takes on a whole new meaning.Tommy Udo 6 wrote:There is also talk that the owners want to eliminate or reduce the MLE

I'm interested to see how the new CBA shakes out. It'd be a large concession from both sides to simply say that the current system doesn't work and we need to ditch the work that has gone into creating it and go with something new. Will they agree to do just that? We'll see...

Re: Joe Johnson's Cap Question
MLE will stay and possibly at the same rate. Lakers, Heat, Orlando, Dallas, Boston, Portland,Spurs, Hawks all need it. Thats half of the teams in the playoffs right now, so it basically means that without it, those teams won't be able to add that quality depth needed for the playoffs. Not saying thats the purpose of the MLE, but that's what most teams use it for.
