the GM hinted a wing scorer won't be so easy for the Nets to find; they used to be a dime a dozen, he said, but "it's not like that anymore."

I've been thinking this for awhile, and even brought it up during the massive failure of B-A-T when I selected Tyreke Evans as my cornerstone and first pick. But it's true...there's not a lot of elite SGs anymore. Is this really the case? Or did guys like MJ, Kobe, Wade simply raised the bar so high?
I'm not sure, but clearly, the SG position is lacking. Here are the top scoring SGs this season:
Wade
Bryant
Martin
Johnson
Manu*
Derozan*
Allen
Matthews
Jason Terry
J-Rich
Those are the ONLY SGs (and * can qualify as SFs) that averaged over 15 PPG. THAT'S IT.
Of that list, three are not much of a creator (Martin, Matthews, JRich), two that are aging (Manu/Allen), and one is an undersized shooter in Jason Terry. Granted, this list will probably include Gordon and Evans if not for their injuries, but regardless, it is not an impressive list at all.
So, what can the Nets do? They have a glaring need at SG (Morrow will be better-off as a 6th man), and no real way to fix it.
A possible solution? Get creative. It's probably not ideal, I admit, but interesting nonetheless.
Let's go small.
As in, a two PG line-up in the backcourt. Deron Williams + whoever scoring/shooting "PG" we can get. Look at the top scoring guards from last season, and in there you'll see the following names:
Rose, Ellis, Westbrook, Curry, Parker, Billups, Felton, Paul, Harris, Stuckey.
Where have all the SGs gone? They are all undersized, masquerading as PGs. So if we can't beat them (or find them), let's join them.
Deron is no Kidd when it comes to defending SGs, but I think he's good enough to handle most SGs (because as we've established from this list, there's clearly not a lot of elite level SGs anyway).
So, if we are to look for an undersized, scoring/shooting SG...who can our target be?
