Local boy for Lions to draft

With the draft approaching, does anyone have a homgrown player they are hoping for the Leo's to draft? Any player with ties to Michigan qualifies, so Ingram is in, as would any of the players from MSU, U of M, Central, Western, so on and so forth.

Personally, I want the Lions to pick up Greg Jones. He might be small, but he is a playmaker, and fills a position of need. Plus, I wouldn't need to buy a new jersey if the Lions draft him, I could continue to rock the MSU #53.

So who do you want?

UofM players MLB Obi Ezeh, OLB Jonas Mouton and OG Steve Schilling as UDFAs.

MSU players P Aaron Bates, WR Mark Dell, TE Charlie Gantt, and OLB Eric Gordon could be UDFAs.

I wouldn't use a pick on any of these guys as I'm sure I would have lots of sleepers that I prefer and would rather gamble to get them for free. Our 2 picks in Rd 5 and 7 I think should go to specialty positions like FB or P, or if not those then they should be RB, QB or WR. (QB only if we can trade Stanton or Hill in order to make a little profit in exchange for relying on a low draft pick to be our 3rd man)

Mouton and Schilling would probably be the only guys that might have a shot at getting drafted. I don't know much about the other Michigan school players and none of them are high ranking on any general lists that I have spotted.

Also, in advance I like Barry Sanders Jr to be drafted by us a few years from now.

I think Chris Rucker can help at CB. Maybe Greg Jones in the 4th if he's still around.

Actually I'd like to see them take the Hillsdale WR in the 7th, Holmes. WMU WR Jordan White wouldn't be a bad pick there either, though I worry about a guy who has blown out both knees in non-contact injuries.

He's not in this draft but I still would like to see someone give former GVSU tackle Sam Allen a longer look. He stuck on San Diego's practice squad in 09 but got caught in a numbers game last year. I had a 6th round grade on him back in 09.

Good to see some love for the local kids, too bad none of the ones listed will go day 1, although I wouldn't be heart broken if they landed JJ Watt. Wasn't he a TE at CMU?

When do you think Rucker will end up coming off the board? I am thinking the at the earliest the 5th round, as he has some red flags, and while he was good at time, he was also incredibly frustrating to watch at times too.

My concern with Rucker is that he might end up as a Safety rather than a CB, and I think the Lions are better off at Safety, though not by much. Where do you see him lining up Iceness?

I watched Rucker for 4 years, almost every game. He improved immensely over time, but I was never blown away by him. If he didn't get drafted I would invite him to camp, but I'm not spending a draft pick on him if I am the Lions

Love Greg Jones, I would grab him in the 4th for sure, and would consider him in the 3rd depending on how our board fell.

I might just be viewing the world through Spartan green glasses, but I really think if he was a bit taller, his draft stock would improve a TON. After watching him for years (and running into him at a bar), I think the kid can just flat out play.

Edit: and yes I am aware that Suh recorded more interceptions in his career. I hear that as a knock on Mr. Jones way to often.

I think you are referring to Greg being too small (you could be talking about Rucker though) and yes, that is his big problem. His size is part of the reason he struggles to get off blockers, which is one of his big weaknesses. In terms of instincts and tackling ability and being a competitor, Jones is fantastic. If he was 6'3'', 245 he would probably be the first ILB off the board
