I know, but his talent is off the charts. I won't be too disappointed if we risk the 30th on him.

I think I would've picked Cameron Heyward, but maybe Jenkins isn't coming back...

Re: Welcome To The New York Jets, Mr. Muhammad Wilkerson!
Wilkerson has higher upside and is a monster physically. 85 1/4" wingspan apparently.
6'4 1/2", 308lbs, can apparently play any position in a 3-4 or 4-3. Bull rusher with great strength that also does real well against the run. Best position appears to be DE in the 3-4...or basically Shawn Ellis' position.
From the combine...

Wilkerson is an elite 3-4 defensive end prospect with idea size, excellent shedding ability and the athleticism to pursue from the backside and rush the passer. Jolts offensive lineman at the point of attack, can beat the double team, finds the football and makes plays against the run. Does not have rare first-step quickness but can take a direct line through blockers to pressure the quarterback and has range against the run. Despite size, is a three-down guy who plays with a high effort level for four quarters. Wilkerson's stock has risen quickly and he could come off the board in the middle of round one.

I think his versatility is what made him stand out to Rex and co. Rex sees him like Ngata where you can move him anywhere along the line and he'll still beast.

Re: Welcome To The New York Jets, Mr. Muhammad Wilkerson!
I would say with the 3rd rounder, go nuts again and beef up the Defensive Line even more.
One guy that is interesting is a monstrous 6'5" 345lb DT named Kenrick Ellis from Hampton. Big, strong, athletic player with a great motor and is supposed to a top notch run stuffer. A lot of teams are hot on this guy despite him being from a small school. Has a lot of red flags for off court problems but scouts say that on the court he's all effort and a force to contend with. Would fit in well with Wilkerson on the 3 man front. Jets are one of the teams that apparently are very interested in him and have scouted him out on numerous occasions.

I wouldn't be opposed to it, he looks like a monster. A NT, OLB, or S is where we should go. I wonder if we would trade up at all and try to grab someone like Akeem Ayers? I would guess not as you can still get good value in the 3rd round but who knows.

Quinton Carter from Oklahoma would be sweet. Has great closing speed, versatile to play different positions in the backfield depending on the scheme and is a bone jarring tackler. Second ranked safety on many boards. A Rex Ryan type player.

Re: Welcome To The New York Jets, Mr. Muhammad Wilkerson!
Some things being said...from Muhammad, Rex and Kiper
Muhammad commenting about being drafted by the Jets:
Gotta love that "more destructive" part lol.
Rex Ryan on why they picked him (despite chants for Bowers):
Rex on what they plan on doing with Muhammad (apparently sees great upside):
Mel Kiper on the Wilkerson pick:
Muhammad commenting about being drafted by the Jets:
''That's a tremendous defense that they've got over there,'' Wilkerson said shortly after being drafted. ''I'm glad to be a part of it and I think I'll come in and help the defense be more destructive than it is.''
Gotta love that "more destructive" part lol.
Rex Ryan on why they picked him (despite chants for Bowers):
'I think Muhammad really fits what we want to do defensively, a guy who can really play head-up on a tackle and kick back in passing situations over guards and centers,'' Ryan said. ''Really, he really was an outstanding fit for what we do defensively.''
Rex on what they plan on doing with Muhammad (apparently sees great upside):
''He was an excellent player in college, but we think he's got more to give,'' Ryan said. ''I'm just excited to see this guy. We're going to push him and push him and push him, and coach him up to play the way we play.''
Mel Kiper on the Wilkerson pick:
''You can make an argument this is the best pick of the first round,'' he said.

Re: Welcome To The New York Jets, Mr. Muhammad Wilkerson!
So yeah I think you go with either a DT or a S with the next pick, then the other with the one after that. Then possibly a OLB. And they probably need a K.

Liking the Wilkerson pick, as long as it was either him or Heyward I'm happy. Also doesn't hurt that he's from NJ.
