"Be the GM" - Discussion/Role Call (3 spots open)

Post#1 » by ZarcMumoff » Fri Apr 29, 2011 4:07 am

If you signed up for "Be the GM", make a post in this thread saying you are definitely doing it. Just doing this so no one backs out DURING the draft. Some did last year, and it really does hurt the overall quality of it because it's so hard to find a replacement GM during the draft. Plus, I rather not have a GM having two teams...really just want one team. So hopefully...everyone who signed up is still a good go. Would make this whole thing a lot more fun.

You have until Monday at 7:30 PM to make a post saying you are doing it...more than enough time.

Now, some discussion...

1. Draft Times
-Do it similar to last year. Just for example (This is NOT the draft order), this is how the first round would go...
1. Atlanta Hawks - phifans - Pick in at 6:00 PM
2. Boston Celtics - Mahorn at the 4 - 6:30 PM
3. Charlotte Bobcats - 76ciology - 7:00 PM
4. Chicago Bulls - NBD23 - 7:30 PM
5. Cleveland Cavaliers - Trend Settaz - 8:00 PM
6. Dallas Mavericks - 76ersAreMe - 8:30 PM
7. Denver Nuggets - Jumpoff12 & JrueDatET - 9:00 PM
8. Detroit Pistons - PatronJames - 9:30 PM
9. Golden State Warriors - Eyeatoma - 10:00 PM
10. Houston Rockets - Numb3rs - 10:30 PM
11. Indiana Pacers - ETphoneHome12 - 11:00 PM
12. LA Clippers - OOGreco - 11:30 PM
13. LA Lakers - Kobblehead - 12:00 AM
14. Memphis Grizzlies - jumivi - 5:59 PM THE NEXT DAY

Then we start it all over again.

A few things...
---All times are EASTERN STANDARD TIME!

---So basically, our picking time is from 6 PM to 12 AM. Then, the next guy has all day to pick, but has to have his pick in by 5:59 PM.

---Say jumivi posts his pick at 8:58 AM...KrazySixersD can post his pick at 11:30 AM if he wanted. Basically, if the guy DIRECTLY BEFORE YOU post his pick...you can post yours. That should be fine, as long as you know who is before you. Only way you mess this up, is if you can't tell time, and can't read, lol. I have confidence in you guys.

---Now say NBD23, Trend Settaz, and 76ersAreMe all have their picks in by 7:45 PM...Jumpoff12 and JrueDatET STILL have until 9:00 PM to get their picks in. It isn't that you have a countdown of 30 minutes to get your picks...you have until whatever time you are slotted for.

---Finally, say phifans posts his pick at 6:00...as does Mahorn at the 4. I'll go with whose ever post comes first. So really, once the little hand goes past the 0 second mark...the next guy can make his pick.

---Another thing, say you can't make it one of these nights, and your slotted to pick. You can send me via E-Mail your top 3, 5, 10, 15 (Whatever you need), and I'll make the pick/post for you. Ask a few guys who where in this last year...I was trustworthy and responsible in this regard.

---Trades. You can discuss trades. But if you want to send an official offer, just put it above your offer. ***OFFICIAL OFFER***. Something like that. That was a problem that popped up last year, and just don't want it to happen again.

---How long the rest of the rounds are...not sure. It'll probably stay at the :00 - :30.

---I'll be making one more thread after this...the Picking Thread. If a Mod could sticky that one, that would be great. Just lettin' ya know ahead of time.

---I'll randomize the draft order and release it by: A. Once everyone post in this thread or B. Monday Night at 8:00 PM. Directly after that, you can start making trades.

---Draft Night - NEXT Monday Night! May 9th -- 6:00 PM.

I think that is it...oh, we have 12 rounds of this. Then after, we'll have a Free Agency. I'll open a thread, you can choose 3 players to make up the rest of your roster spots. No more than 15 players on a team.

Finally...have fun with it. That's what we are here for. You're GM...build your team.

Ask me any questions here. I'll answer.

Remember...make a post in this thread saying you are definitely doing it. You have until this upcoming Monday at 7:30 PM EST.

PK5 I can make the draft, but not at the time you've specified...I'm living in India and there is a huge time difference...

10:00PM Monday will be 7:30 am Tuesday morning which is when I go to work. I could do the draft at 6:30 am India time, or even 7:00 am India time, but 7:30 am is too late...

Basically can you move back the whole draft by 1:00 hour? If not atleast half an hour? I would prefer an hour, cuz with a half hour difference I only have about 15 mins to decide, as I have to leave for work at 7:15 am...

So instead of me drafting at 10 PM eastern, can I draft at 9 PM easter? The draft would have to start one hour early for this to happen...

NVM...I just realized that this isn't the draft order yet...So I could be even later, or maybe earlier...I'll let you know once the order has been set...

When will the draft be btw?

Yeah, I remember you telling me that last year.

That was only my hypothetical draft order. Unfortunately, the times are going to vary. Sometimes you'll be picking at 6:00 PM EST...sometimes 1 AM EST...sometimes 10 PM EST. What you can do, like I said in my novel up there, is send me a Top 5 or 10 (Whatever is needed) of players, and I'll draft for you for the times you can't make it. I know that takes some of the aura away from it, but I can't think of anything else right now.

I'll see what else I can do...I'm trying to think of others ways to make this work.

I thought we were to stick to our time slot? Or does that change each round because of the snake draft?

No. We'll be doing 13 or 14 (Which ever way you look at it) picks a night. So time slots will be mixed up differently. Not to mention, if you make trades. But yeah...the snake draft would also effect it.

PK5, I will do it ! But since I live in China. I have about 12 hours ahead of your "eastern standard time" That means I have to make my picks every morning. Hopefully I could get the pick from 7AM to 8AM then I could finish my pick before I go to work. Anyway, could you please give me your E-mail adress then I can sent you my top 5 choice if I can't make my pick on time.

I'm in, but I'm going to have some work schedule issues, so I may have to do the same thing at points (email you or someone the 5 players I want in order a few hours before my draft slot). If that can work, I'm good to go. I understand that may be too much of a pain in the ass for you though.

I'm in but also have similar time zone issues. Sounds like there is gonna be a few people in the same situation, is there some way we could get around this other than emailing preferences maybe?

Dangit. This is what I get for not checking in to this board for a couple days. Stupid work schedule.

Anyway, I'd like to be involved, if someone bows out. I saw that 76ersAreMe might not be able to do it, but I don't want to push anyone out of this. I'll wait until it's clear who's in and who's out. Just let me know if something comes open, PK.
