Welcome To The New York Jets, Mr. Kenrick Ellis!
Discuss the next pick and draft here as I've dedicated the other thread to Wilkerson.
So do we keep this pick? If Ayers is still available mid 2nd round, I'm praying we trade in to get him.

at this point I'd be happy with Sam Acho, Kenrick Ellis looks very intriguing, Q Carter, and Deunta Williams

Kiper and his shadow both love Ellis. Called him a monster of a NT. High risk but extremely high reward type. If he can focus on football and doing what he can do, he could be a stud NT in the NFL. Him and Wilkerson combine for some 660lbs of big, strong AND athletic beef on the new Jets defensive line.

Another real nice thing about Ellis is that he's a terrific run stuffer which means if he pans out that it will force teams to throw more and...well...in my best George Lopez voice..."WE GOT THIS!!".

I'm happy we finally drafted a NT...supposedly he faces a max of 20 years in prison for assault or something???

Wouldn't be surprised to see "Trader Mike" put his moniker to the test tomorrow and trade up and take Quinton Carter from Oklahoma.
With the 1st 2 picks it sure looks like the Jets are going after big talent and figuring they can get these guys to maximize their potential at the next level.
With both Edwards and Holmes free agents and the unlikelihood that both will return they should also look for a WR within the next couple picks to help give Mark Sanchez some help.
Carter is exactly the type of versatile defensive back NFL teams are looking for to slow down the pass-happy offenses in today's game. He has played strong and free safety in Bob Stoops' defense at Oklahoma because of his physicality and speed; his ability to make the big hit, support the run, play centerfielder, or even line up in man coverage is rare among college safeties. He should one of the top two or three safeties selected in April.

Really, not aware of that...but here's an interesting article about Ellis...his talents vs. his baggage
Hampton’s Kenrick Ellis may be the most talented small school prospect in the entire country. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find another defensive tackle at any level of the college game with a more impressive set of physical tools than Ellis. However, for all of his natural ability Ellis also has some serious off-the-field issues that could push him down many draft boards and off of others all together.
Once upon a time former New York Giants general manager George Young coined what he called the “Planet Theory”, which states that there are only so many people on earth with a certain blend of size and athleticism. Kenrick Ellis is exactly the type of freakish physical specimen that Young was talking about. Ellis checks in at 6-5 and 338 pounds, with long 35-inch arms, large 10-inch hands and reportedly runs the forty yard dash in the low-5.0 range. A prototypical nose tackle, Ellis is stout at the point of attack and able to occupy multiple blockers with ease. While not an elite pass rusher, Ellis is nimble and moves very well for a man his size. To top it all off Ellis is strong, extremely physical and plays the game with a nasty demeanor.
That’s the good news....

Re: Welcome To The New York Jets, Mr. Kenrick Ellis!
One WR that may be available in the later rounds that would be worth a gamble is DeAndre Brown. He's a 6'6" 235lb WR (yeah) from Southern Miss that was a CUSA Freshman of the Year and received All-American honors his rookie season. He's been injured the past couple seasons (he's a Junior) and really wasn't able to live up to the lofty expectations/comparisons that were laid upon him (was viewed as the 2nd coming of Randy Moss) and that he flashed his rookie season.
If the Jets decide to keep Holmes (and let Edwards go) Brown might be a fit as the big receiving target for Sanchez.

Scouts are apparently concerned about his health but here's what's been said about his upside...

His next-level talent is undeniable, combining a freakish 6-6, 231-pound frame with an enormous gait and the ability to sky well above defensive backs. The Eagles are harboring a superstar at the position,,,

High risk, high reward pick. I love his potential, if he doesn't go to jail.

Re: Welcome To The New York Jets, Mr. Kenrick Ellis!
Q. Carter would be nice but I doubt he lasts til our pick. Otherwise I'd be very happy if we went safety in round 4 as there is still quality at that position. WR wouldn't be bad at all but I'm still holding out hope we resign Braylon and Holmes

Re: Welcome To The New York Jets, Mr. Kenrick Ellis!
All indications are that Ellis will not do time. I'm hearing he was attacked first by the guy with a bat and Ellis simply gave him a Hampton-style beat down. Hell if thats the story I like the kid even more.
Loving this draft though, Bilal Powell is a super-sleeper and if you think about it our running game started to fade a little toward the end of the season. The WR Kerley automatically boosts our ST and gives us a true slot WR that we havent had in a while.
