Kobe Bryant’s foul on Emeka Okafor with 3:14 left in the Lakers’ Game 5 victory over New Orleans has been upgraded by the NBA to a type-one flagrant foul, according to an NBA spokesman.
Bryant now has one flagrant-foul point for the postseason, with possibly a long road still ahead for the Lakers. If a player’s playoff total exceeds three points, he receives a suspension for each point he is beyond the plateau. (Flagrant fouls can be worth two points for more egregious contact.)
Bryant swung his left arm from behind Okafor on Tuesday night in an attempt to block his shot, but Bryant made hard contact with his elbow to Okafor’s face. That prompted the further review and later classification of the flagrant foul.
