Do you regret us trading away Zach Randolph?

Post#1 » by Leor_77 » Mon May 2, 2011 12:30 am

We're all watching Zach become one of the best performers in this years playoffs, and it's kind of too bad that we traded him away. I remember that I was pretty annoyed when we traded him away, because I liked his game. From his time here, I always thought of him as a gamer, and as someone who wasn't going to be afraid of big, clutch moments...On the contrary, he's the most confident in those moments. I know that it wouldn't make sense since he and Blake would be two Power Forwards, but I think it would have still worked. Regardless how you look at it, we traded him for Quentin Richardson, and then traded Richardson for Madsen, Craig Smith and Telfair. Obviously, a move for Blake and to save money, but not really something where we got much in return.

I think it's funny when people say that they're surprised that he's doing so well in Memphis, and that he finally got it together...He never didn't have it together. Regardless, I'm glad to see him doing well.

I'm happy that Zach is playing well. At the time we won the lottery we had Kaman, Camby, and Randolph. It was obvious that we were going to draft Griffin and one of those big men was the odd man out, and it was Randolph. I wasn't surprised that we traded him and I don't regret it. We would have had a log jam at the 4 and 5 spots and I'm sure someone would have been unhappy. I do not regret trading Randolph.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I don't regret it one bit. I'm a Z-Bo fan and continued to root for him after he was traded to Memphis. I thought there were many teams that could have used his presence (e.g. LeBron's Cavs or the Magic). As far as general consensus goes, people are finally realizing that he's a good player. Too many people listen to whatever everyone else says without observing for themselves and making an opinion. His reputation preceded him and many people were not willing to give him a chance. The Jailblazers was a terrible enviornment for him and then on to Isiah's Knicks. I don't need to even mention the public perception of the Clippers, nor the fact that we were stuck with Dunleavy and the permanent black eye of Sterling.

They have done some wacky things in Memphis, but have turned the franchise around and built a good team around Zach. They have a solid coach and the right pieces to be successful. Zach finally feels wanted, which is what he wanted here in Los Angeles. As numba2 mentioned, we had Kaman, Camby, Blake and even DJ in addition to Zach. One of Kaman, Zach or Camby had to be moved, since there are only 96 mins to around. Kaman and Camby were centers. Camby could play both positions and had the favorable contract. Blake was going to be our future and plays the same position as Zach. At the time, we were still holding on to hopes of signing LeBron, so we made a financial decision. Zach was worth more to us than to other teams, so weren't going to get a fair deal no matter what. We cleared up cap space and everybody (sportswriters and basketball fans) liked the move at the time, because we "got rid of the cancer and cleared up cap space."

Had we known that Blake was going to be sidelined for a year (and that we would bomb in the summer of 2010), then maybe we keep Zach a little bit longer. Hindsight is 20/20.

No. I've always loved Zach but we needed to make that trade at that time.

Still rooting for him and my new favorite team, the Grizz.

It was the right move for us to trade him, and I'm glad to see him doing well in the playoffs- he did well for us too.

Glad to see he's doing well in the playoffs, but I am definitely not a Z-Bo fan. Memphis is a great fit for him. If he stayed in LA, there would have been too many off-court distractions.
