Can we get the 2009 Smoove back?
Now that we are not going with with a gimmick defense any more, and the Hawks are going up against smaller post players in Noah and Boozer, can Smoove go back to how he was in 2009 when he played strickly in the post and played discipline basketball, having a PER of 21, shoot .505FG, and blocking 2.1 shots a game.

PER of 21 Carmelo/Zach Randolph level. smh
anyways Brandon Bass and Ryan Anderson grabbed 10% of each rebound. Dwight 20%. Together they get 30% of all rebounds.
Boozer and Noah grab 18% each. That's 36% how are the Bulls smaller than Orlando? The Bulls are one of the best rebounding teams in the league.
To answer your question, no. He went from 225 to 235 to 240.
Now he's more lethargic towards the end game, can't beat people off the face up and is slower on the fast break. This Josh Smith who does not have the stamina to beat players or make quick cuts or post up so he jacks up set jump shots. Also less quickness=less blocks.
Hawks wanted him to bulk up to play power forward and they got what they wanted. He's no longer a record setting shot blocker at 2.5 per game.

On the plus side he's a slightly better rebounder, has more experience playing a slow pace and can back down small wings.
Maybe if he gets a summer back the weight will melt off with work and diet but who know. #applebutter

he is blocking less shots because Drew is forcing him to play SF, while Woodson in 2009-2010 made him play exclusively PF.
i don't know how you are saying he is taking jumpshots because he is lazy, you are ignoring the fact that Drew is positioning him to play on the perimiter
Smoove bulked up when Woodson was here, not just when Drew came in last year, but regardless, just like Dwight, Smoove's quickness and vertical went up when he added muscle mass.
the less quickness is all in your imagination, their is absolutly no sign of Smoove slowing down based on the film and stats

I never used the words lazy to describe him, lethargic means drained or tired.
He has pretty much always played on the perimeter when we are not running dunk plays for him.
He offensive rebound rate has gone down a mere 1% maybe from crashing less. However, one could also argue that Smith is slower and cannot crash against 4s and 5s everytime.

That's why I added multiple weight numbers, he came in at 220 then to 230-235 and now he's at least 240 now and probably closer to 250, because Carmelo is 240 and Josh looks thicker than Melo despite being only 3/4 an inch shorter.
just like Dwight, Smoove's quickness and vertical went up when he added muscle mass.
No it has not . Josh Smith's at least 240 now. Putting on 20 pounds does not typically make you quicker. It makes you slower and musclebound. And I think most people will agree that you are the one using your imagination. Dwight and Josh are friends but they are different people, with different bone structures and abilities to carry weight/muscle. A 6'8 220 guy is obviously not going to handle 20 lbs "just like" a 6'10 260 guy handles 20 lbs.
This is our problem we think Josh is a center and can handle the defensive assignments a center can because he jumps high.
We want him to play closer to the basket but we didn't want to put him at the speed forward when he was quicker and had an offensive rebound advantage and ran in transition for easy dunks.

based on film surely u can show us your point of view. I doubt it but will eat crow if u r telling the truth.
I think anytime Hedo Turkoglu can guard Josh Smith we've lost something in the speed department. He used to be one dribble and gone.

The best thing for the Hawks is trade him. It should've happened 3 years ago for Gasol or Randolph. You guys have been waiting 6-7 years for this guy to mature. He is what we've seen. He takes bad shots because he shouldn't be shooting from the outside in the first place. He's lazy at times, uncoachable. I can NOT stand him.
GO HAWKS.

funny, Zach Randolph's TS% last season is the same as Josh's this season.

Granted Josh had a terrible shooting % this postseason at SF vs Turkoglu but so did Joe at SG and Horf. We played Joe the minutes down the stretch and sat Josh when necessary and he came through.
Zach Randolph's contract has never matched with Josh straight up.
But Joe, Josh, and Horford all had bad series per minute wise but we got our size in the post we drew fouls got rebounds got out in transition and beat the Magic.
:::
Josh Smith's career true shooting percentage? .522 or 52%
Joe Johnson's career true shooting percentage? .527 or 53%
Even without any post skills at PF Josh Smith is essentially an All-Star, enjoy it while we can and hope he plays closer to the basket and draws fouls in transition consistently this series.

I still say its the coaches fault. I was one of the ones hoping we got another coach, but at least an upgrade from Woody and not a lateral, if not worser coach. When Woody was here, you could always see a camera shot of him chewing out Josh.
Offensively, Drew has turn Josh into a little kid again by giving him more jump shot opportunities. for Josh, it's like a kid at a candy store. Defensively, I think his presence and knee has slowed down his shot blocking #'s. I mean through the first 4 months of the season, he averaged 2.2 BPG. January was a slow month as well as February up until he hurt his knee. To simply say he has become lazy all of a sudden(Which could be the effect of his knee) or he can't handle the weight he has gained, is far off from being the reasons. I wouldn't mind seeing a 230 Josh though. He probably moves a bit better then.
Get us Jeff Van Gundy.

He has gained weight and it has affected his athleticism but at the same time he doesn't seem like he's in great shape he's got some fat. I think he could keep the weight and the athleticism if he tones up a bit

Smith played a terrible offensive game. For someone who never moves w/o the ball(by design or by personal preference)...He still stands too far away from the basket.

Great game by Smoove, great to see him back playing PF in the post and getting back into his old form of being one of the few NBA elite post defender, and dominating the paint even though he is undersize. he can defend a ton better than 99% of the 7footers in the NBA. Josh was guarding the paint all game long and did what the team need, blocking shots, block Rose, and denying Noah and Boozer easy baskets. smoove going back to his old form with 4 blocks, giving everybody on the Bulls a second thought and hesitation of going into the paint, getting block and having zero free throw attempts by Rose, and the big block Smoove had on Noah was SICK
