Re: NY Yankees (16-9) @ DET Tigers (12-16)
Or over analyzing when it's CLEAR flawed less talented teams have won the World Series previous to this year's Yankees. Need to stop digging at ONE player and look at how the team plays as a whole. Ain't one or two geriatric guys, it's the whole damn line up save Russell Martin. But that's going to happen...accept it. This is a different animal.
Speaking of youth...Austin Jackson hitting .197 lead off age 24.
AGAIN, Baseball is not a sprint. It's 162 games over 6 months...
If this is August and someone starts crying about a player, I'll sympathize and get them a tampon.
Till then, It's MAY 4th soon and the Yanks are in first place, Tampa is 3 losses back, and Boston is STILL under .500...
If you're unhappy now, ask yourself would you be more humble if the Yanks were 14-15? Doubt it. You'd sound like the a$s clowns in the Knicks boards who flip out any time Donnie Walsh can't trade Shaun Williams for Chris Paul.

sorry Im not buying any of these arguments...the yanks lost the division last year by 1 game, proving that each game matters...and when you face penny, you gotta obliterate him!

the LOBs are way too high
guys like martin and granderson are younger bats that we didn't have early on last year.... we just need to do better in situational hitting...
tough loss.. CC pitched 7 innings, just had two inning in which he gave up 2 runs each..
tough loss...
back at it tomorrow..
there were numerous baserunning blunders made tonight

Atleast when I cry about a player I provide facts on why I cry about a player. I'm not the one that claim Jeter is doing all these intangibles, which are mostly inaccurate. I have no problem in agreeing that this team is good enough to win the championship with Jeter hitting .250. What I'm not going to agree is that Jeter is making a positive contribution. Lets be honest, Jeter is not getting more heat because he is Derek Jeter, not because what he is contributing.

Perhaps, I should explain myself better. My frustration is not on Derek Jeter himself (his contract demand did annoy me a bit). I think what Jeter is going through is normal for a 36 years old that had never taken steroids. What I'm frustrated about is people claiming that Jeter is in "slump", or had a "off year" or it is still early in the season. A slump that has been going on for a year is not a slump. An off year for a 36 years old is called a decline. It is not early in the season when you started "slumping" since a year ago.

yes he is in decline, we all know it....the question is when to put him at the #9 spot, b/c thats where he belongs with his 250 avg

But if you're going to asssess your #9 hitter according to average at least 3 hitters are below Jeter: Gardner, Posada, and Swisher.
Speaking of averages, it's interesting assessing the Yankees outfield. Do you know how abysmal of a start to a season they are having? When Curtis Granderson is your most productive outfielder...gotta go all the way back to last post season, the danger signs were there.
So sure, the yanks need upgrades inevitably at SS but I'll take an upgrade at RF and LF. He'll, even if the yanks could get a more consistent CF, I'd take it.

We've been over this before. Yanks losing the division ensured them to get to the ALCS because they did not face Texas in a best of 5 (where Tampa was obliterated). Keep in mind, Colby Lewis beat them twice not cliff Lee. So winning division doesn't mean as much as match ups.
Let's move to tonight's game where Max Scherzer has 7 strikeouts and given up 2 hits. Jeter has one of the two hits. So much for this babble about youth, new lead off solving all the problems. Once again, look at series not individual games.
now that Garcia has reverted back to 5 inning, 4 ER normalcy can the offense cover for his mortality? This is his second consecutive lackluster start.

I see the dead bat society is at it again.. two losses in a row.... jeez.. seems like detroit pitchers and hitters get well vs the yankees, no matter how bad that team is...

Detroit can hit. Any line up with Cabrera, Ordonez, and Martinez are capable of putting up some numbers. Tigers are the only team to blitz the Yanks 4 runs or more. Last time being at Tiger Stadium when they jumped on Philip Hughes. Didn't know Max Scherzer is 5-0. I see that three team deal that shipped Edwin Jackson and Ian Kennedy to the D-Backs worked well in the Tigers favor. Not a bad team at all...
Now that Jeter has left the game with a hip. Who works lead off?
Curtis Granderson .260?
Nick Swisher .223?
Remember when Girardi said he was going to split lead off between Jeter and Gardner?
Gardner .213
Tomorrow, the Yankees wins leader AJ Burnett (4-1) takes the mound and has an opportunity to even if out for the Yanks against Porcello...Remember last start, AJ went 8, let in only a run against the White Sox, and the Yanks LOST.
In other words, the power outage has been going on.

Hey so what? Is ANY team a stranger to losing streaks?
Get off your high Horse and look at the franchise NOT the city. While Detroit may have lost 25% of it's population, that franchise was one playoff game away from playing the Yankees two seasons ago. I got news for you, that team hasn't gotten worse, it's gotten BETTER cause the kids are maturing.
It's one thing to be a NY fan but BE a baseball fan and give some credit where it's due. Detroit is pulling itself out of .500 ville against the AL East leaders. AGAIN, 162 game season you can lose 7 and STILL win the division. See Tampa Bay and Boston who aren't so helpless anymore.

this current team isnt winning anything...there is no strength to it (pitching, pen, O), nothing that stands out
tigers have decent pieces, but that doesnt explain freaking penny shutting down NY
they need to call up montero's bat

I blame Bob Lorenz calling the game. Him and Flaherty took all the juice out of the series.

yea, I agree, I am tired of having to pump other teams up to explain why the yankees lost.. Detroit is garbage, they were garbage before we played them , and we lost 3 in a row... I am sorry, but if we are a team that is looking to contend, this should not happen.. detroit could not beat their minor league team before they played us and all of a sudden they look like the 98 Yankees....
