Who has Impressed or Depressed?

Who has Impressed or Depressed so far this season?

Favourite Jay so far? Most hated?

We are one month in and patterns must be starting to emerge.

Who has impressed? To state the obvious, Bautista. But if I were to choose a less-obvious answer, I would say Yunel Escobar. Great glove, fast, good leadoff hitter - just delivering almost everything you could ask of a starting SS this year. The nod also goes out to our middle-relief - Casey and Zip have been terrific, and help absorb the loss of Downs.

Who has... not? Octavio Dotel has been just awful - maybe it's the situations he is being put in, but for a former dominant closer, he is struggling. Also, Frasor. That guy is just brutal (not that I was expecting anything from him).

He has a 2.08 ERA in 2011 and as been one of this team's best relievers for years. Brutal wouldn't exactly be the word I'd use to describe him.

Anyway,

Impressed: Bautista, Romero, Arencibia
Depressed: Cecil, Reyes, Hill, Lind, Farrell

Lind has taken an abysmal six walks over the entire season and his OBP is awful because of it. Realistically, unless he gets his power back up to where it was in 2009, he isn't the long-term option at 1B for this team.

Impressed: Escobar, Bautista, Arencibia, Raji Davis (hustle) and Corey Patterson
Depressed: Travis Snider, Edwin Encarnacion (horrible error machine), Jo-Jo Reyes (horrible beyond bad), Juan Rivera

Edwin needs to go man that guy is horrible on the defensive side of things. In a dream scenario I would love to get a Alex Gordon or David Wright here somebody who can I don't know actually play 3B!

Impressed:

Beast, obviously. Perhaps more so than expected because I thought he'd fall off a little.

Romero has been very good. He's striking people out all over the place, not getting hit very well at all, not walking too many guys, getting tons of grounders... He's about what I was hoping for so far. Very good stuff.

I'm thrilled to see Morrow back in the rotation, and he's even looked good, too. *crosses fingers for health*

Villanueva has impressed me a little. Really, our 'pen in general apart from Francisco and Dotel. Janssen, Frasor, Camp and Scrabble have all been good. Rauch has been... not good, but not flagrantly terrible, I guess.

Esky has been good. Only complaint was that throw to third, lol.

JPA has had moments, more than I expected. He's got some hella power in that bat.

Neutral:

Drabek. He's young, but his command sucks, he walks everyone, he doesn't strike people out a lot... but he's young, he's got stuff and we're 6 seasons into his first full season. Patience, I know.

Litsch. About what I expected he'd be. Glad he doesn't suck, wish he'd get his fat ass on a treadmill, but he's by no means hurting the team right now, so I don't care that much.

Lind. Struggles or not, he's doing OK. Not ideal for the position he's at and there is MASSIVE room for improvement, but he's been getting better of late. Wish he didn't have 1 more walk than JPA in nearly 50 more at-bats, though. Still, he's making good contact, getting on base with hits and his power appears to be slowly returning. Enough for me to say neutral for now. Wish he'd hack a little less, but I could say that about everyone except J-Bomb.

Depressed:

Cecil. Just... yeah.

All of our other hitters, really. But especially Aaron Hill. I know he's been injured, but he's sucked since last year and was sucking in 08, too. 09 feels a lot like a mirage at this point.

Alex Anthopoulos. Because E5 is still on the team. This is a mild thing, really, but he's made a couple of strange moves so far and I am not enthused about how he gets locked in on players to the detriment of our team.

John Farrell. He's a new manager, so I'm willing to give him rope, but some of the decisions he makes really throw me for a loop.
