Re: Watching the Lakers & Spurs falter...
They played well against the Lakers this year. The spurs however they did not. The Grizz play way better defense then we did at any point this year. The west is going to be different next year. The Spurs gave their best this year. They will not be as good next year. The Lakers will be up there but the jazz showed last year that they do not fear them at all. The Mavs have to sign some people back. My point is there is a shift in power going on right now. Our division is the power rising. We need to stay the course and build the right way.

Re: Watching the Lakers & Spurs falter...
I think the West is going to be wide open in the next few years, no powerhouses are springing up really, I think OKC is going to have hard time bringing their entire team back year after year, so they'll get weaker, and I think Memphis is a flash in the pan.
Honestly I think we have as good a chance as any to control the west for the next half decade or so if we draft well, and if Corbin has the chops.
I don't think LAC has the ability to stay together with their ownership, Portland has a chance to be good, but Roy will hamstring them, and everyone else is no better off than we are.

I actually hope Dallas can win it all this year. I love Dirk, and he doesn't have that many dominant years left, and he deserves a title. They look really good, he is absolutely unguardable. As long as he plays like that, Dallas will be really tough for anyone to beat.

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...

Yeah, Dirk's and one against Pau last night off of the wrong foot, on a fade away from 19 feet reminds you of how special that guy really is. He's clearly the best PF in the league imo, he does it night in and night out, and every single shot he takes I think is going in. He's the best offensive PF since Karl, I love watching him play.

First off, we wouldn't have done as well against either team listed above. Bat's comment regarding powerhouses gets me excited for the coming seasons and here is why: As much as it seems the NBA is becoming a league of superteams, the West is deteriorating in that sense. Kobe is on his way out in the next couple of years along with Jackson. Tim Duncan is much more of a role player now. Dirk is peaking and the only team I see with a stacked roster is OKC. Much of the West, I hope, will be comprised of average players that have to come together and play some good basketball. Otherwise, we may as well have shifted power with the Eastern Conference. The Utah Jazz organization is solid and hopefully we will be able to show the rest of the league what real basketball is about in the coming seasons.

While I'm not going to write the Lakers off yet for this year, I am encouraged by how vulnerable they've looked. I think they're also going to take a significant hit with Phil Jackson's departure. I don't care whom they get to replace him, it's going to be a big step backwards.

Don't forget Memphis. They are very young and look quite good. Marc Gasol seemed to have stolen whatever cojones Pau left lying around the Gasol household. They will be a tough team to beat. Randolph has looked unstoppable. He and Dirk have easily been the best PFs in the playoffs.
Denver also looked pretty promising if they can hang onto those pieces and find a good superstar to plug into them.
Portland could be dangerous as well.
But overall, I think you're right. There will be no perennial favorite pretty soon. The Jazz will have a great chance in 3 or 4 years to be on top of the heap.

Re: Watching the Lakers & Spurs falter...
As long as Dwight Howard stays in the East, the only players that potentially scare me are Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin. Otherwise there aren't a ton of superstars in the West.
Luckily, Favors, who I think is going to be our best player for years to come should match up well with Griffin (should be some epic battles) and I just don't see LAC adding the pieces around him to really contend.
Durant has, and will continue to give us trouble, guys with his size, range and athleticism are just match up nightmares.

Re: Watching the Lakers & Spurs falter...
I believe Memphis' success currently is largely contributed to the hot streak they're on. And its a damn fine one at that. We match up really well against the Grizzlies and competing with them won't be much of a problem.
I'm really waiting on Denver's off-season moves. I think Nene is the most important player on that roster and if Felton leaves, you always have Lawson to start; which isn't a bad 2nd option.
Portland, for me, I'm the most intimidated by out of these three. Aldridge is fantastic and Miller has stepped up well in lieu of Roy's knee injury. Matthews will always be looking to do well against us, and seeing how they competed with Dallas, it really makes me wonder how well we are going to do against these guys next season.

Re: Watching the Lakers & Spurs falter...
OKC are showing their inexperience in the playoffs. I think they will lose to either the Lakers or Mavs. But as long as they keep Durant, Westbrook and Ibaka together, they will be a contender in the West for a long time. They are going to continue to find great role players like Harden and Perkins. They are going to be top 3 in the west for the next 10 years, health permitting.
The supersquad trend is what it is, but the flipside of stars congregating to the big markets will be the development of potential elsewhere. Small market teams will continue to have unknowns and throwaways develop into real players who would otherwise have their progress curtailed by the stars they are supplanting. The result will be better teams and better players than many people expect.
The Jazz have some great potential, some extra picks, and financial flexibility. They are poised to build what could be a great team.
