I think it's 1000% better, I hated the old site, very poorly put together. Things looks a lot better organized now.

Looks really similar...when you said 1000% better, i was expecting big time changes haha.

By the way, to anyone who is interested, the site is offering free live streaming this weekend for all MLS games.

Lol come to think of it, it would leave a rotten taste in my mouth if it were DC out of all teams...

TFC beat FC Edmonton 1-0 tonight (4-0 on aggregate) to advance to the finals of the Canadian Championship.

They will take on either Vancouver or Montreal in the finals in a home and away series.

Vancouver and Montreal tied last night 1-1 so Vancouver will advance on aggregate 2-1

I can't wait for the finals! It's the only competition TFC has a chance of winning.

Tonight's game is also available online for free.

Should be a good one, and having it in Portland makes it even more exciting. Fantastic fan base.

Looks a lot like NBA.com or ESPN. Atleast the scores are much easier to follow now.

Big win for the Portland Timbers last night who still have not lost at home in MLS action.

They are a lot better than expected, and Vancouver as an expansion team are a lot worse. Coming into the season Vancouver looked like the better team on paper.

It's still early and things may change, but Portland has a very good shot at the playoffs at this point.

Big win for TFC tonight over Houston 2-1

Ekersley and Yourassofsky played well and Plata was creative all night long.

I liked De Guzman's game tonight too. Solid on the defense and helped with some decent passing.

was a good game, the draw a fair result. Wish NYRB didn't just settle for the draw there at the end, but they're still at the top of the table 8-)

Could that L.A./N.Y. game possibly be the best in MLS history?

I would say RSL has had better games, but probably not in MLS.

exciting games with quality performances like that from both teams aren't seen much in the MLS. Usually going from watching an EPL and Serie A match, and then an MLS game later in the same day is pretty awful, with the drop off in talent very evident...but that was not the case yesterday :)
I would have liked to see a sense of urgency from both teams in the closing 5-10 mins to say it was best game ever status.

I really hope more players who are so called "washed up" in Europe come to the league. they don't need to have the skill they used to, but their leadership and experience helps make the players around them a lot better.

It definitely was a great game, it was nice to see Henry show some of his old flash right here

Old school Henry right there :)

Also, Ream shutting Donavon down should get MLS Save of the week.

TFC's Plata wins first MLS Player of the Week award

Image

The shortest player in MLS has claimed the biggest individual award of the week.

In his first career MLS start, 5-foot-2 Toronto FC forward Joao Plata earned the MLS Player of the Week award as voted by the North American Soccer Reporters after scoring a goal and registering a game-winning assist in a 2-1 win over the Houston Dynamo on Saturday. It was TFC's first victory in league play since a 2-0 win over Portland on March 26.

After teammate Nick Soolsma earned a penalty in the 50th minute, it was the 19-year-old Plata who stepped up to take the spot kick and he buried his shot below the crossbar for a 1-0 Toronto lead. Then with 10 minutes remaining, the Ecuadorean winger put the game away with a seeing pass to Maicon Santos, who doubled the TFC lead on a goal that proved to be the game-winner.

Plata had seemingly earned a PK of his own in the 60th minute, racing into the box in a one-on-one opportunity against Houston goalkeeper Tally Hall. Referee Jorge Gonzalez initially pointed to the penalty spot after Plata hit the ground on the play, but after a discussion with the assistant referee, the call was reversed.

The Ecuadorean Under-20 national team player received rave reviews for his performances in the Nutrilite Canadian Championship semifinal series against FC Edmonton and TFC manager Aron Winter gave him his first start against Houston. Plata, the leading scorer at the 2011 MLS Player Combine before being selected with the 49th overall pick in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft by TFC, had played in a total of 63 league minutes before going 89 against the Dynamo on Saturday.

The native of Guayaquil, Ecuador is the fifth newcomer to earn the MLS Player of the Week award after eight weeks of the MLS regular season.
