Vogel to Houston?

All I can say is, him or Rick Adelman wouldn't be bad.... It would be kinda funny if we got Adelman, but if Vogel is in demand now, let's KEEP HIM.

Eh, it's not a lock by any means. From what I understand, Houston practically has a novel-sized list of candidates to interview. I've already heard about Mario Elie, Sam Cassell, Kevin McHale, Jack Sikma, Frank Vogel, and a bunch of no-name assistants who I can't remember.
Hopefully this lights a fire under the butts of Herb Simon and Larry Bird.

This could be a whole "Matt Painter to Mizzou" type of thing. That was for more money. This could be so he's guaranteed the job now...

I know, I apologize. I was born in St. Louis and still like Mizzou (and definitely your avatar!). But I go to Purdue and am glad he stayed.
Side-note: I thought there was going to be history made in STL tonight... Great game, though.

Would be a bad move by Vogel to go to Houston. Less talent than what we have here + Western Conference = No playoffs and no moral victories like we had here.

I think the good move by Vogel is to simply be a head coach anywhere. If we're not going to promote him here, he's certainly better off to get a head job in Houston than to be an unemployed assistant coach (as the new coach here certainly wouldn't retain him as an assistant).

Re: Vogel to Houston?
The timing doesn't seem right for Vogel to be interviewing. I guess he must feel like he is in limbo here. He definitely knows something we don't, otherwise it just seems odd that he'd interview elsewhere when he is supposed to be the front-runner here.
Almost like he knows he won't be coming back.

Well, there also hasn't been ANY news out there yet on our job, really. Houston has already interviewed something like 20 candidates, it seems. We're a solid week or two out of the season and nothing has come out yet. Maybe we're taking our sweet little time and moving a bit slowly?

the Bird/Herb meeting is supposedly set for Tuesday. I don't see Vogel going to Houston before then.

Don't worry.
Adrian Wojnarowski already said that Vogel isn't a serious candidate for the Rockets job.
Everything points to the Rockets being down to Lawrence Frank, Dwane Casey and maybe Kevin McHale.

^^^ Yeah, I'm not too worried yet. I almost wonder if Vogel was using the Rockets interview for (A) practice or (B) to kind of put the squeeze on Pacers management.

I didn't expect him to be. The connection with the Rockets GM make it an obvious choice of interest, but i didn't think he'd get serious interest until he truly proves himself, besides possibly from the Pacers, because he did coach us. Just look how many first year coaches have success and how many of them each summer went through failed interviews?
The big thing for Vogel is interviewing and putting his name out there. Just like in anything, experience is key, and practice makes perfect. It's important Vogel gets as many chances to interview as possible. Interviewing for a NBA coaching position is much different then interviewing for a real life type job.
