Jason Thompson's Trade Value?

Post#1 » by DRK » Sun May 8, 2011 1:08 pm

Hey guys. Sorry to start a new thread, but I couldnt find a General Trade Thread.

As a Suns fan, I feel that the Suns need 2 tihngs. Youth, and a nice player at the PF position. IOn my opinion, Jason Thompson passes well on both of those criterias.

Would there be any interest in trading Jason Thompson to the Suns? Sometihn like a Aaron Brooks Sign and Trade maybe? Or Robin Lopez?

I really like what Jason thompson brings. He's a going to be one of those great guys off the bench for your frontcourt for years to come. I don't think a trade for Brooks works because we have enough cap space to outright sign him. If the Suns match, be my guest. As for Lopez? Eh, it's an okay offer, I just think Jason's a better player. What I really want in return for Thompson is to package him with other assets to net ourselves a star(maybe not all-star) but a fringe level all-star caliber player. Currently I don't see the Suns having one of those. I do like Brooks the fit for our team though.

I tend to agree with BoogieMonter in the respect that if the Kings were to trade Thompson, it would be smarter for them to trade him as part of a package for a bigger fish.

I just don't feel like JT has any real trade value. When I say real, I mean he has more value to us than he does to other teams. I'd rather just keep him as our third or fourth big off the bench.

Aaron Brooks would be a good pick-up for the Kings this off-season but I don't think we deal JT for him. I'd be willing to do something involving Casspi or Beno for Brooks.

Yeah, I doubt it's high enough to really warrant a trade at this point unless he's sweetener. He was starting to fit in perfectly off the bench, I'm totally down with him staying right now. I'm sure coming off the bench hurt his value as an asset but it certainly added value on the floor for the Kings. Still, he has to be re-signed here soon so he's basically in the same position Landry was last year. Difference being of course the Kings have a better shot at retaining him should he hit the FA market next summer.

In general - JT is a class act guy. He hustles, has a good mid-range shot, gets loose offensive rebounds, play's with a lot of enthusiasm/heart, and clogs the lane with his great size. On top of that, he show's a lot love towards our fan-base. It's hard to replace a player like JT; I would hate to see him leave.

I concur. I would keep JT. He's worth more in Sacramento.

Yeppers. JT is a keeper unless a serious upgrade to the roster is in the discussion.

I love everything about JT's attitude, work ethic and passion for the game, so no I don't think Aaron Brooks or Robin Lopez. Honestly, I hate Lopez's game. I've watched a decent amount of Suns games because my girlfriend is a Suns fan, but I hate the way Lopez plays. As for Brooks, I think he has a lot of potential although he underplayed in Phoenix, but I still think JT has more value to the Kings than Brooks does even potentially.

I cant fathom the Kings trading JT for anything less than involving him in a package orchestrated for a superstar. He is the ultimate role player and is loved by all his teammates/fans. JT is a keeper!

Sacramento wanted Jeff Teague for Jason Thompson and the Hawks turned them down. I see why now.

And Kings fan want you to GTFO. I see why now. See what I did there? Anyways I agree if we were to deal him it would more likely be for a fringe level all-star caliber player.

Depends on what happens on draft "Knight", hehehe.

Actually I'd do Nelson and Orton for Thompson and Udrih regardless if I were in charge. Even better if a third team was involved that could take Nelson and give the Kings something else.

Yes, I'd do that deal for sure. I'm a big Nelson fan, I think he could be a good fit. Plus he brings experience having been to finals before. I'd like to get Ryan Anderson or JJ Redick back in the deal, but that probably wouldn't happen.
Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say....Tyreke Evans.
That just happened.

I don't think a trade is what this team needs unless Udrih, or Garcia are leaving. I don't think that Trading Jason Thompson now is a great idea especially since Dalembert can walk. It seems like right now retaining Sammy D is a huge priority to this team. If you trade JT now for a non big and Dally walks as a FA we are hosed.

There's no rush to trade JT anyway. I think he has a clear role in which I really feel is best for him and the team. He's a versatile 4/5 type but won't be a major factor on the offensive end. He will rebound and defend. His defense can get better.

At the time of the Thompson/Teague trade rumors we still had Carl Landry on the team. I also thought at that time it wasn't clear what role the four bigs would play on the team. We knew Cousins would be a main cog but after that things were up in the air. They have played out, and Petrie already traded the non fitting piece. I like the front court rotation going forward. As you can see Dalembert's offensive game actually existed with us, and he with Cousins worked well. I'm all for just staying put.

BTW sometimes if you hit trolls with common sense it leaves them either speechless or they come back with something rather dumb. Watch ;)

It's true that trading JT and failing to re-sign Sam would make us very thin up front, but we could always sign another big or two, and possibly draft one. There are other options there. I think it would be worth what Nelson would bring to this team.
