I Sent Leonsis an Email About TV Sound

Post#1 » by dlts20 » Tue May 10, 2011 11:56 pm

Ill post my email, then Ill post his response, then Ill post a response from another person. Here is mine:

Ted, IDK if you can do anything about this but 1 thing that no one talks about and it drives me crazy is the sound of our games on TV. Again, I doubt if you can do anything about it. Alot of people dont pay attention to it because they are just use to seeing our local Comcast Sports broadcast and thats all they know but I have the pleasure of watching alot of our games on our opponents networks and the audio is night & day.

The game is so much louder on there networks. You can hear the players say things, you can hear guys shoes screech on the court, and most of all you can really hear how loud the crowd is. It makes the game 10x more exciting. I even remember years ago hearing Buck's call when Gil hit that shot in the playoffs to beat the Bulls. It was great.

Then I watched it back on the Bulls network and the sound in that building was 10x better then you heard on our network. I envy those teams fans so much. Im not saying its all the teams but alot of them are. We have to fix that audio. If you dont believe me then just get someone to show you a Wiz-Bulls game on our local network and then on the Bulls. Its night & day and again, its alot of teams or nearly all of them with way better audio then us. See if you can talk to someone about that, please. Thanks

Here's his response:

Will do. Ted
-------------------------------------------------------

Then I also got this response after he forwarded it:

Ted shared your email with me. Thanks for taking the time to write. I have connected with Comcast SportsNet's head of remote broadcasts as well as the Wizards producer/director. It's something we definitely will discuss.

Thanks again for passing along your observations.

Take care, Kurt

Thanks for doing this. The production values of the Wizards games on Comcast Sportsnet are laughably bad. The sound is certainly a significant issue amongst others.

Definitely appreciated, I hope they touch base with MSG in NYC. They do a superb job of broadcasting the stadium and not just the two desk jockeys behind the scorer's table.

Thanks for doing this. I CANNOT STAND when CSN brings up a lame arse interview while the game is going on. They miss out on live game footage because of poorly timed replay injection.

Yeah this drives me crazy. They always end up missing some ridiculous shot or something too.

I don't notice the sound being that bad when I watch on CSN, maybe because I watch on HD though...

The sound is awful. Although I didn't notice the low sound quality when we had a decent team.

Totally agree. And I would add that the poorly timed replays are generally plays that we really don't need to see again anyway. But when it comes to some of the really good or controversial plays, they either take forever to show it again or they'll show a replay of the wrong play.

Re: the sound issue - where it's really bothersome is when the commercials come on. You've got the game turned up loud to you can hear it, and then when the commercial break starts you have to turn it down or get blown away by the loud commercials.

My new offseason checklist:

1. Get the #1 pick again.
2. Trade Blatche.
3. Hire new replay/sound guys.

Championship!

I don't notice the sound much, but I do notice how they miss replays and stuff. Er, not replays, but actual in game action. The broadcast as a whole just screams low budget.
