Said he doesn't think Phil will coach again.

Said he'll miss the conversations with Phil the most, and that they sat on the plane together.

Said he didn't trust Phil as much the first time around, because they had to "appease the big fella". Established a lot more trust with him during the second run.

Called the Pau rumors ridiculous and an example of the media always reaching for reasons of struggle.

Believes that the current core can absolutely win a title next year. Cited the fact that the Showtime Lakers never won three times in a row either.

Looks forward to being able to strengthen his knee and body. Wasn't able to do that last offseason. Said there's a difference between feeling healthy and feeling strong.

Said the team was tired and quoted Tex: "Fatigue makes cowards of all men"

Referenced Tex again when asked if it mattered if the Triangle was back next year. Tex used to say that the system didn't matter as long as it was executed properly.

Said that this season was a wasted year of his life (tongue in cheek. I think.)

Thanks! I know some people have already said they feel confident about next year with his interview but what is it specifically that he said which makes people confident? other than rest and workouts

Can someone summarize Mitch's interview please? I heard Phil's interview but missed Mitch's.

It was a long one and he seemed pretty upbeat, but you can tell he is upset. Hr didn't get a lot of practice this year and it hurt the team. Didnt start off the season well, because he had to focus on getting his leg better and it never got as good as he wanted it to be all summer.

He absolutely thinks, believes and wants this team to come back together in tact.

My favorite part was his line:

He didn't really go in-depth as to why. Like others said, just rest and added motivation.

This is what Mitch basically said.

Mitch said that he believes that this current group can still win a championship. Doesn't think age had anything to do with their loss to Dallas since Dallas is older on average. Says that losing alone will make the team better next year because they will come back hungry.

Still hasn't met with ownership so he isn't sure what the situation is on coaching change. Also isn't sure what types of moves have to be made until he discusses them with ownership.

Says that as older players age the younger guys will be coming into their primes. Mainly Andrew.

Says he likes what he saw from Andrew defensively and that Drew even showed development on the offensive end.

He says that no team is looking to help us win again and that the Lakers certainly aren't looking to help another team win.

Made comparisons of losing in 03 to losing this year.

He said that this roster situation is completely different than the situation the Lakers were faced with during the end of the early 2000 Lakers run. He said they basically didn't bring back anyone from that group besides Kobe while here he has an entire core group of guys.

Restated his feelings about you won't be able to win without a veteran group of guys. He did say bring up something about looking to add youth and athleticism.

Asked about draft. He feels confident about the draft because they usually do well in the 2nd round.

Someone asked him about blowing the team up and Mitch said he believes that the guys on the team have value around the league.

Kobe also talked about the "eating order" on this team. He said he will get his shots no matter what then he is followed by Pau. He said Andrew must fall in line with that because he is after Pau.

yup, that part was great. i also liked how he referenced the showtime lakers, saying something to the effect "there was a great team here in the 80's and they didn't win 3 in a year, didn't see them getting broken up."

I hope they are not serious about the same group being able to win next year. If we don't address our poor shooting and wing defense then we're going to find ourselves in the same position next year. I mean, we all saw this coming since last season, didn't we?

At the same time, other teams are getting better. Butler is going to give the Mavs even more depth, and teams like Memphis and OKC (both dangerous) are only going to get better. I'm sure we'll be far more motivated next year, but that doesn't guarantee us anything. We need to get better.

See the thing about when Mitch was talking about the same group of guys winning it is that he didn't seem comfortable answering that question. He seemed to take long on answering that question. I don't know how to take it but if you asked me I feel like he was just saying that as a cover and deep inside he knows changes needed to be made.

I suppose he could be playing his cards here, which actually makes sense. If we don't seem overly desperate then our players might have slightly more trade value. The second that other teams see our desperation increase their asking prices, and/or perhaps players themselves will try to demand more for their services via FA signings.

Kobe Bryant said that the 2010-2011 season was a waste of a year in his life. It was a waste of mine too.

The main reason I think we need a BIG TRADE is because the Buss family has always seemed to not want to add to the payroll with the MLE.

If we would actually use our TPE to land a Delonte West and use our MLE to add a Kenyon Martin and/or Tay Prince than I think this team could certainly be left in tact and win a title, no problem. However I don't really see the Buss family doing anything with the TPE, nor do I see them signing anyone to the MLE ... therefore a big trade is needed.
