Bill Gallo, legendary Daily News cartoonist and columnist, dies at 88 after lengthy illness

The prolific, playful hand that brought to life cartoon characters Basement Bertha, Yuchie and General Von Steingrabber has been stilled.

Bill Gallo, sports cartoonist at the Daily News for more than half a century and whose career at the paper spanned 70 years, died of complications from pneumonia at 88 in White Plains Hospital late Tuesday night. His passing marks the close of what seemed always to be an endless supply of ink and fun in the pages of The News. Inside our building, Gallo would walk around the big newsroom talking sports, bouncing ideas off coworkers or showing off his latest, comical work to everyone's delight.

R.I.P. Mr.Gallo.

Really appreciate all of the support guys. Really helps me out... But honestly, I have no passion for life anymore, really since my injury. Taking way to many L's.... I really don't have anything. I try to get through the day through prayer, but nothing has happened, so maybe the best sign is no sign? TBH, I haven't done ''it'' since I made that post before Easter of doing it, which was like 3-4 weeks ago, nothing makes me happy, I'm just a sad kid, and my fam and some friends notice my change. I have legit cried like 6/7 days a week the last few months. I don't wanna live like this anymore, but there's nothing I can do. Nothing.

The only people I can really tell is a few select close friends, and my RGM buddies. Born alone, work alone, die alone I guess.

You almost make me want to cry. That is truly sad. It's worse because there is nothing I can say of substance that could really alter your perspective.

You gotta stop taking yourself so seriously. There's no reason why you gotta be crying like that. I don't know you but lighten up. You're 17 and I'm sure you're well off. And stop listening to J Cole's depressing ass songs.

Mecca, i know you love j.cole, try listening to some other music. music can change your life; rap has its place, but when i stopped listening to it i started to see things a little different. i was a hell of alot more at peace with myself quite honestly. i know it may sounds trivial, but its the truth (atleast from my perspective.)

Few weeks ago a girl in one of my classes told one of my friends she thought I was cute; I told my friend that I thought she was cute and he tells her that. Didn't make a move then. Now, I'm making my move and apparently she's hooking up with someone else (on and off but now it's on). I'm annoyed...still trying though.

Females have a very short attention span with guys when they're in HS and college especially if their hot. Unless they're crushin they give you a window to come and bag. That window does not stay open very long. Procrastination always ends up with you and your hand.
