For those of you who have problem putting on muscle... It's probably because you don't take in enough calories. I have the exact same problem.

Going to try this toward the end of summer when I start lifting:

http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/sm.html

With Skim Milk mixed with it, it's like 1650 calories.

My goal is to get toned. Obviously, I want muscle but I am also close to getting some abs. Would eating this many calories be counter productive and add some fat?

From everything I have read about abs is that most people have them and can make them look good... Revealing them is just a matter of eating low fat foods, doing cardio and doing some ab workouts. You just have to burn the fat away to show them off.

Obviously you need to add muscle to make the abs themselves look bigger/better. So you'd have to eat at a calorie surplus to add muscles in that area and then shave the fat back off if you want like a 6-pack.

I also think you can get one by working out for a very long period of time as well.

A lot of working out, getting muscular, etc. is about the diet just as much as it is about the workouts.

I have meal plans set-up for when I start to lift and I am going to consume as many calories as possible with as little fat as possible so that when I cut weight, it will be a lot easier after putting on the muscle.

Yeah, I cut back my drinking a ton only due to my situation. I went from a second semester senior in Milwaukee where I probably averaged 30 drinks a week. Now I work long weeks, live with the rents in Racine away from a ton of friends, and drink once a week (anywhere from 5-15 drinks.) If you figure each drink is 100 empty calories, I cut back my caloric intake each week by 2,000 calories. And that is just from not drinking and without changing my diet. Now add in I'm been eating a ton leaner and exercising more because I am not hungover and you have a huge difference.

Summer kills me for booze. Two sand volleyball leagues = automatic drinking after. I wouldn't cut beer out of my diet if I heard it was laced with arsenic though.

You can take my ground beef, milk, OJ, pizza and pasta. But you can get **** by a tree if you think you're taking away my booze.

Lol, I am the definition of social binge drinker. I'm cool not drinking any booze, until someone pops one open in front of me. I will never turn down a beer if someone offers it and the more I drink, the more I drink.

I recently got back to working out at Princeton Club in New Berlin...for now I just shoot hoops for about an hour then do light lifting until my body gets used to it again! I go to the gym at 9pm to avoid all the people there, but now Im so tired at work...got to find a happy medium!

I rarely drink at all now, but I have given Ab Ripper X a go. Pretty good workout for only 15 minutes.

I drank quite a bit up until last year then just stopped entirely. Amazing how much better your body responds when you're not saturating it with poison. My recovery process is more productive and faster.

I eat mostly organic or close, never drink soda or liquor and try to workout 6 days a week. Only smoke some herb and probably get too much sun as vices.

I haven't had a drop of alcohol in almost 3 weeks. Partially by choice (could've gone out Cinco de Mayo), partially because work is real busy and a lot of my friends are beginning to settle down. Meh. Feels good to not ruin half a day being hungover. But I'll be honest, once I hit my goal I want to go out and meet some ladies. :eyebrows:

Once you hit your goal we should hit up Water Str., drink 1000+ calories worth of alcohol and then eat 3000+ calories in Qdoba.

What good is a goal if you can't get hammered and eat delicious food once you reach it? :)

It's crazy how empty calories add up quick when you actually watch calories and compare them to their equivalent in miles run. At lunch, I had a bag of chips to go with a Coke. Well, that was 400 calories. First time I ate junk food in awhile. In the past I probably would've ate 2 of the small bags and sipped on two sodas. That would've been 800 calories. I just ran 5 miles at a 7 1/2 minute mile pace and that only burned 700 calories.

Going out Saturday night. Would probably be staying in if not for the fact it's a get together organized by a friend that's moving to the East Coast next month. He and his wife are awesome wingmen who usually point out their single friends to me. I'll have a little more confidence than usual this time around. :D
