GSW Fan Trade Idea - Involves Tyrus, Pick, Curry and Others.

Post#1 » by radtech » Wed May 11, 2011 8:40 pm

Tyrus Thomas, DeSagana Diop, and the 9th pick for Steph Curry and Andris Biedrins?

Why for CHAR, getting Curry would be a dream scenario, local kid, father is involved with the team, he's a scoring point guard, he is a building block. Biedrins is a head case as of now. HE had great talent three years ago averaging a double-double but unjuries have hamper his development but is still only 24 years old. He is an athletic big, who rebounds and defends but offers very little on the offensive side.

Why for GSWs, once again the Warriors finish near the bottom of the defensive side of the ball. They lack size and any defensive presence. The GSWs go intot he draft looking for rebounders and defenders again like last offseason. Thomas offers that incredible athlete that can jump out of the gym, defend, and rebound. Everyone is waiting for to be a complete player but plays with passion on the defensive side. Diop is just a big body in the paint. Does not offer that much but plugs the lane and is a capable shot blocker. Now the GSWs have the 9th and the 11th pick, which should offset the 2012 lost pick a little bit.

Changed the topic title OP - hope you don't mind?

Back in Jan you came and posted an offer of:

"Would you trade Wallace, Mohammed, and 2011 lottery pick for Andris Biedrins, Charlie Bell, and Stephen Curry?"

and I said to that:

"No. I'm happy with what we are getting from DJ at the point and Biedrins sucks."

I don't feel that much different today than I did back then! I'd think harder about the deal if it was the 19th pick and not the 9th though.

End of the day though, Biedrins really does blow goats.

I mean, Diop is bad, but at least he is not earning 9 mil a year for the next three seasons like Biedrins is!!

Steph isn't enough of an upgrade over DJ to make it worth losing a productive player, taking on salary, AND losing a lottery pick.

If Steph means taking on Biedrins, it'd have to be something like:

Steph and Beans for DJ, Diop, and Carroll

If it was our 19th, I'd do it:

19th, Diop, Tyus for Curry, Biens

We overpaid for Tyrus who is on our books until 2015 with a backloaded deal that will top out at almost 9.4 mil. For the people who are still in denial about this, I think next year will put those doubts to rest. He's a fantastic spark off the bench and a great energy guy but he's just not worth the $/years IMO.

Beidrens is overpaid but when healthy he's a servicable 10/10/1.5 seven footer. We're talking about a guy who from 06-09 collectively averaged a double-double and he's still only 25. Contrast that to Diop who has never logged a single double-double in his entire career.

I'd prefer we not have to take on Beidrins's contract but thats the price you'd pay to get a deal like this done. Unloading the balance of Tyrus's lengthy deal and Diop's remaining $14million to GS more than offsets Bien's salary and it would be a net win for us financially. Plus, he would at least give us a center if we lose Kwame to an overbid in FA.

Steph Curry isnt going to turn into Chris Paul but he is still a very good young point guard who is better overall than DJ. As an added bonus, he is younger than DJ and would be a local draw.

Packaging DJ plus our lotto selection may allow us to move up in this year or next years draft or net us another young player at a position of need.

Stopped reading at Andris Biedrins. I wouldn't have even come in here if Biedrins was in the thread title.

I would do:

CHA: DJ, Diop, swap 2011 1st round picks, 2011 19th or 2013 1st round pick from Portland
GS: Curry, Bell, 2011 2nd round pick

Not interested in the $9m albatross or giving up Tyrus.

I also like this better for us than the OP's deal (with the 19th instead of 9th pick).

However, why would GSW fork over Curry and take on Diops horrendous contract for just DJ Augustine, a late first rounder and the option to move up two spots in a weak draft?

Also, it doesnt appear it would work financially because we're dumping too much money off on them without getting enough back in return.

They probably wouldn't.

It's one of those "take it or leave it" kind of deals and if they leave it, no harm no foul. I wouldn't give up a ton to get Curry at this point when we could probably pick him up as a FA in a few years.

http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/981/kwame-brown

Kwame Brown: 6'11 / 8ppg / 7rpg @ $1.3m
Andris Biedrins: 7'0 / 5ppg / 7rpg @ 9m

I don't see the incentive to add $7m+ for decreased performance.

GSW stink worse than us so getting 2 of their starters is not something I would consider. I wouldn't mind Curry but he's not a true point and he's very fragile. Not someone I would risk taking a chance on especially when we're trying to build our team back up. If we had a solid foundation then I would take a chance but we can't justify making a deal like this right now.

Hopefully we get top 3 in the lottery and take Kyrie Irving so we forget about Steph Curry.

Wow either I'm overrating Curry or you guys are way overrating TT. The OP deal would be good for the Bobcats in my opinion. Diop for Biendris is a wash. So what if Biendris has one more year at 9 mil he at least gives you something, anything. Tyrus deal is also bad he is about to be overpaid real fast when Bobcats realize what the rest of the league already knows, that he is a bench player. The 9th pick is ok but probably not enough to get us a Curry type of player. At 9 projected players are either tweeners without real position or players that heven't proven anything yet.

I would do the OP deal in a second. Bobcats need a star player and Curry can be one, basically nothing else matters. If Jordan wants to compete we need stars or else all the TTs and Kahwai Leonards of the world won't help us win, but will keep us in no mans land. Not good enough to compete and not bad enough to get a top pick.

Agree w/dmutumbo on this alternative, but I'm absolutely certain the Warriors wouldn't agree. They probably wouldn't agree to the initial deal. With Curry we have a highly marketable semi-star who is much better than DJ but will never be an elite PG. Biedrens is expensive but so is dead-weight Diop. AB can contribute and allow a re-signed Kwame to give us a solid but not spectacular combo at the 5. We take the 9th pick and select the best player likely to become a starter, and move on from there.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Agree with all of the above. I would also jump at this deal. Curry would give us an identity, a player the fans would really like and rally around. Kind of our Bernard King. Don't just look at the numbers. Watch the way he plays. There is not a single Cat I want to pay to see play right now. I would go to every game I could if Curry was a Cat.

Really? I like Stephen Jackson, Henderson, DJA, Kwaman, and Tyrus a lot. They're interesting players, all of them.

The deal breaker isn't Tyrus, it's Beans.

I thought we were going to stop this habit of bringing in overpaid veterans. If we're going to overpay for a guy, at least bring someone in that *could* make an impact.

I'm too lazy to look at the figures but I think a Diop/Beans swap would cost us $12-15m over the duration of Beans' contract. That's a good way to piss even more money away.

The only way is makes sense to take Beans is if we get an absolute steal; Ellis and Curry. That's not happening.
