Coaches, Players, and the Lakers

Post#1 » by TruSkool » Fri May 13, 2011 3:02 pm

Ok here we go---

There are a couple of threads on the board about dwight howard coming to LA and coaching options for the Lakers.

Here are the organizations coaching options, and what the lakers would need to do under that particular coach to be a successful team

1. BRIAN SHAW
-keep the team intact, as is.
-stick with the triangle offense, and let Andrew Bynum be the focal point of the offense, just as Shaq was in the earlier part of the decade.
-Allow kobe to defer, make him play 2nd fiddle
-let gasol, odom and artest do what they have been doing all year. Odom, especially, has been thriving. Gasol is still one of the most polished big men in the league, and his unselfishness will only make Bynum THAT much better.

2. RICK ADELMAN
- Again, keep the team intact.
- Adelman's offense is based on high screen and rolls, and its called "corner offense".
- Gasol is a superb passer, like how divac and cwebb were for the kings back in the day.
- I wont lie, i think Luke Walton would flourish in his offense.
- Obviously, Kobe would be the Go-To guy here, and he would get a lot of 'isolation' opportunites under Adelman, much more than he did in the triangle.
-trade shannon brown. He's the complete opposite of what Adelman's game plan is about. Instead, go for a player like jared dudley or carl landry.

3. BYRON SCOTT
-First thing, we would need to get a point guard. It's been mentioned earlier that Scott has only somewhat succeeded with a top tier point guard (jason kidd, chris paul)
- so, we'd need to pull a trade with on a guard, and the odd man out would be andrew bynum. But, he would land us someone special, im thinking outside the lines--westbrook, williams, nash? but i doubt that will happen.
- He would give kobe the green light to do pretty much anything he wants, which might not really be a good idea, considering the worlds of talent this team has.

4. JEFF VANGUNDY
-I really dont know much about him, but i do know he preaches defense. He's also pretty good at keeping egos aside, and getting a lot out of his players.
-he seems like an 'under-rated' fit, and might do very well with the lakers.
-we'd probably need to toughen up on defense, and I think Artest, Bynum, Kobe, and Barnes would do very well under him.
- He would be the only coach of the flock that can probably push gasol to his peak, offensively and defensively.
-I would like for the lakers to push hard to get back Trevor Ariza if VanGundy is the coach..even at the expensve of Artest.

add on.. :D

LOL WUT ^

Rick Adelman sounds really intriguing right now.

Do you think Brian Shaw has the ability to coach Kobe?
