We aren't trading Bynum unless it involves Dwight. End of that story.

We'll politely decline and deal you Gasol/filler for Bargnani/Calderon instead. Deal?
Coangelo would do it.

Pacers fan here.
Since you guys are stuck with some bad contracts I was wondering what it would take to get Gasol. The pacers could offer Granger straight up for Gasol and maybe take a MLE player like Walton and the Lakers would not have to match salaries.

that is actually intriguing, although, I don't why the Pacers would want to go that way.Pacerlive wrote:Pacers fan here.

Its simple. We don't have a legit PF right now and we need a guy to give us some spot minutes at the center as well. Some fans think Paul George is going to be a very good player in near future and if we trade for Mayo (which Bird will) then the Pacers have their starting 2 and 3 in Mayo and George. The Pacers are 24 mill or so under the cap and their isn't too many options out there in FA's.
IF the new CBA has a hard cap then a trade like this will almost be necessary for the Lakers IMO.

getting rid of Granger doesn't make sense. allow me to share some common knowledge about teams that win championships, you don't trade your best player for a new best player, you add another best player.

Re: Official Transaction Ideas thread
I'm sure this has been brought up before, but would you guys do a Curry/Biedrins for Gasol or Drew/ blake/maybe some picks?
If its Gasol, I would withotu a doubt, but I'm nearly certain GS won't touch that. If its drew, to me thats a toughey.
GS is always on win now mode, and with a new coach they might actually try to get some decent bigs. We could sign another decent big (maybe an athletic shotblocker type?) and start LO.

Granger is a borderline all star while Gasol is all star year after year. He is a much better player than Granger and he fullfills a postion of need. The Pacers believe they have the next Granger in Paul George thats the logic behind it. The Pacers don't have the luxury of making lopsided trades and signing older vets for less money because they desire a ring. They have to build the traditional way by building a well balanced team with no real super star.

I understand what you are saying, but see what happened to the Bobcats when they traded Crash. I know is not the same, but you have to find a way to double your strengths not just add a bit.Pacerlive wrote:snaquille oatmeal wrote:getting rid of Granger doesn't make sense. allow me to share some common knowledge about teams that win championships, you don't trade your best player for a new best player, you add another best player.

Yes I think if that offer presented itself the Lakers would pull the trigger on such a deal. In LA we could use Horford the way we use Gasol in our rotation. I still can't imagine the Hawk's front office making this type of a trade.

Re: Official Transaction Ideas thread
Could just sign Delonte West, sign Patty Mills, bring back Vujajic and go with that group. Still a much improved rotation at PG. Then you can add a good role-playing SG like David Lighty in the draft and go with that group? It's not flashy but if Delonte is healthy come play-off time:
PG- West, Mills, Blake
SG- Bryant, Vujajic, Lighty
SF- Artest, Barnes, Ebanks
PF- Gasol, Odom, 2nd
C- Bynum, BAE player
Not flashy but I think it would get the job done.

How does everyone feel about Anderson Varejao? He's a great defensive PF, and a Varejao/Bynum front court would be the best defensive unit in the league.
I'm trying to work on a trade that involves us trading Gasol/Brown for Iguodala and some how acquiring Varejao from Cleveland. Just wanted to know what the general consensus was before I waste my time trying to make a trade for a player no one wants.

Re: Official Transaction Ideas thread
Just as a suggestion but there's a guy that was extremely effective playing with Andrew Bynum years back that the Lakers could acquire pretty easily just for added depth. I've always thought that Ronny Turiaf as a solid post defender, good mid-range shooter, and great cutting option, and good shot-blocker was a good fit next to Andrew Bynum. I'm not sure how it would come into the picture, but a few years back after Odom was suspended for his tackle of Ray Allen against Boston the Lakers kicked the crap out of the 76ers with Ronny starting at PF. It was by far the best effort I've seen out of the Lakers defensively inside in years with blocked shot after shot. Best part about the two of them is that they fit each other's game on the other side of the ball and against team's that feature guys like Derrick Rose, Durant and what not you want shot-blocking. You want a lot of it. Most teams can't do it because they simply don't have personnel that could fit offensively.
Food for thought.
Here's my suggestion for a ridiculous defensive team that could arguably lock down almost anyone:
- Lakers trade Pau for Igoudala+Speights+Williams+1st
- Lakers sign Tayshaun Prince for the MLE.
- Lakers sign Sasha Vujajic and draft David Lighty.
- Lakers sign Nenad Kristic
- Lakers trade Steve Blake+Speights+1st for Jarret Jack
- Lakers trade Ron Artest for Marvin Williams and then Williams goes to Milwaukee for John Salmons.
PG- Williams, Jack
SG- Bryant, Salmons
SF- Igoudala, Prince
PF- Turiaf, Odom
C- Bynum, Kristic
Even OKC cannot match the defensive intensity and overall perimeter defense of that group. There isn't a single poor defender in there and there's unselfish basketball from the starters as well as the bench with constant ball-flow.

Would Flynn be a upgrade at point guard. He is only 6 foot tall and 22. Just has not got a lot of playing time. Without Phil and his insane need for 6'5 guards. Would this help the Lakers slow down some of the better and faster guards. Last 3 years Lakers have got burned every time they play against a small guard. Not sure what the T'wolves want for him.

I like Varejao too. However, I think instead of Iguodala, it will be nicer if we can get a starting PG. I think the ideal one will be stephen curry. If there can be any deal that allow us to get varejao + curry and only giving up one of the bynum/gasol/odom, I will be all for it.

Re: Official Transaction Ideas thread
I have a question about MLE. What if the Lakers ask Pau to ask his brother to sign with the Lakers, is the MLE possible? He can sign for 3 years, then resign to a new contract then. I'm sure he'll make up the rest in endorsement in LA. Then maybe we can trade Bynum for Paul.
